Ohio Department of Health Guidance- Test to Play

  1. If my student is vaccinated, do they have to wear a mask when they are exposed to Covid-19?
  1. Yes based on the linked guidance from ODH this applies to a student athlete who is vaccinated or unvaccinated.

  1. If my student is vaccinated, do they have to test initially and on day 6 following exposure to Covid-19?
  1. Yes, guidance from ODH indicates that a student should test upon initial notification and then again on day 6 whether vaccinated or not.

  1. If a student is wearing a mask appropriately, do they still have to test in order to participate in an extracurricular activity?
  1. No, a masked student would fall under the previous guidance

  1. If my student is exposed to Covid-19 in the community or our household are they able to take advantage of Test to Play protocols?
  1. No, a student who is exposed outside of school or a school-related activity is not eligible for these guidelines.

  1. I will have my student who has been exposed wear a mask, but do not wish to test, what happens?
  1. Your student may not be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities until the 11th day after exposure.

  1. I tested my student on the initial notification, or on day 6 and they tested positive, what do I do?
  1. Call your child’s school and notify them of your child’s name, test date, and symptom onset.

  1. What type of test must be used?
  1. The tests referenced above must be SARS-CoV-2 (PCR or Antigen) tests and must be proctored in order to be utilized for the purposes indicated above.  
  2. Proctored means that either you access a live video during the assessment with a rapid test, or take a test at a clinic or doctor’s office which is rapid or PCR.
  3. A test must be sent to prior to your student returning or a call will need to be made to the building and then the negative result shall be sent to the school office first thing in the morning.

  1. What does it mean to wear a mask during an athletic or extracurricular activity?
  1. A student should wear a mask when not actively engaging in the activity  on the court/field/stage.
  2. Currently, that would look like locker room, sitting on the bench, film review, team meetings

  1. Does this apply to Minerva Youth Basketball?
  1. The District does not have any governance over community leagues or activities, how they treat a covid-19 exposure is up to their policies.
