New York 3, New Jersey 1

The final day of the Future Games showed that the Team New York arms would not be denied as six different pitchers combined to allow a single run in a 3-1 victory over New Jersey.

Position Players

2020 INF Casey Saucke (Greece-Athena) had some oppurtunities to go into the hole today to make plays and showed some lateral range. Threw two innings the day before in the midst of a 4 day event so the arm may have been down a notch but the bat tool did not suffer one bit, crushing a triple to straight away center off an 87 MPH FB under the hands. Long term projection may shift him to 3B or a corner OF spot (sub 7.0 runner with present arm strength).

2020 OF/LHP Anthony DeFabbia (Iona Prep) has come a long way since last year’s Future Games at the plate. Shown the ability to go to right field at the plate, occasionally with some pop. Calm, quiet pre-pitch and timing with a flat path stroke; handled better velocity with ease. Collected a Sac fly on a line drive to right-field that provided some insurance for New York. Defensively he tracked down two crushed flyballs to center and right center with absoulute ease.

2021 Danny Rogers (Troy); continued to put together soild at-bats, driving a long ground-rule double to right-center. Will be an interesting follow as to where he will end up defensively; presently projects in that 2B/3B role.

Pitchers

2020 RHP/3B Owen Parliament (LaFargeville) set the tone for New York with 2 solid innings where he filled up the zone with a 3 pitch mix. The square shouldered RHP with a long arm action was able to sit 84-85 MPH and mix a 12-6/11-5 CB for strikes. Showed more of a “power change” at 79 MPH that over a longer outing will become an important offering.

2020 RHP Von Baker (Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville) bounced back with an even better effort then his first outing, much like Parliament, showing three pitches around the zone. FB continued to have that downhill tilt sitting 84-86 MPH consistenty. Breaking ball had more teeth to it today with 11-5/10-4 shape. Confident, imposing figure on the mound.

2020 RHP Tyler Roche (Cardinal Hayes) was hit some in his first outing, perhaps giving the hitters too much credit. The Roche that took the mound today was electric as he pounded the lower part of the zone with his FB at 84-85 MPH, clipping an 86. Breaking ball showed the tight rotation once again with a little more of an earlier break then day one but with better command. Verbally committed to St. John’s later in the evening.

2020 RHP Dylan Beers (Monroe-Woodbury) like many of the other pitcher’s in their second outing, showed increased confidence and imoroved stuff/command. Beers challenged the hitters eary and often sitting 85-86 with some boring action; his 2-seam FB also had some lateral action at the same velocity. CB was 68-70 with some depth and late action. Showed one of the better change ups at 75-76, a pitch that he tunnels well out of the hand.

2020 RHP Max Luke (Croton-Harmon) continued the theme of attacking the bats and getting early contact; was mostly 82-84 but did touch 85 MPH in his bounce back inning. Frame projects well and will continue to get better with time. CB with a deep differential, as he continues to throw that with pitch with conviction, his results will quickly benifit.

2020 OF/LHP Anthony DeFabbia (Iona Prep) had the oppurtunity to show off his slider and change up as he picked up the save. Last year on the final day he impressed at 82-83 MPH with feel for his change and no breaking ball. A year later he’s sitting 84-86 in his second outing of the event with a late, sharp slider that duck under several bats at 76-77 MPH. Above average fade to his change up with some arm side action that slides off the edges of the plate at 77-79 MPH.
