AboutI am an IP strategy and partnerships advisor with 25 years experience in product development, go to market and stakeholder management. I am expert at building networks and ecosystems for disruptive technology products. I have direct experience in AI, media & entertainment, consumer tech, mobile, accounting and fintech, research and policy, commercial law, and global health working in big tech, startups, regulated industries, and nonprofits. |
RolesKarmanline / CEO & Co-founder / MAY 2025 - PRESENT, LONDONFilm & TV production needs to leverage AI tools to reduce costs and maintain creative quality, but lacks legally safe or professionally relevant ways to do so. Karmanline is a group of entertainment and tech industry veterans solving these problems with ethical AI solutions built for creators and producers, the first of which is a script and cost visualiser to help production teams rapidly iterate and communicate requirements as they deliver projects.Flawless AI / VP, Ecosystems & A.R.T. / JUL 2023 - Mar 2025, LONDON & LOS ANGELESFlawless wanted to galvanise an artist-friendly approach to AI in the film industry but lacked a clear plan to execute. I designed the product & commercial framework for its Artistic Rights Treasury as a concrete scalable solution. Covering IP identification, tracking, access & trading the Treasury concept allowed AI tools to be used safely & at scale, unlocking the market for generative tools in Hollywood. This strategy was pivotal in attracting investment & securing sales with studios & streamers. My expertise placed me in the Hollywood strike negotiations, & my contributions helped shape pragmatic, AI-positive terms. Silverfin / VP, Partnerships / JAN 2020 - MAR 2022, LONDON & GHENTSilverfin’s accounting software product was hard to localise, which held back international growth. I devised the platform model to overcome this barrier, which involved creating the platform strategy for product & commercial teams, delivering technical partnerships, and delivering the first platform deals with international accounting firms. This led to a doubling of revenue & successful exit. Peek Vision / Co-Founder, Chief Impact Officer / OCT 2015 - OCT 2018, LONDON, GABORONE & KITALEI built the organisation, business & product strategy needed to scale a highly regarded medical research project into the global health design & delivery platform its author envisioned. I spun IP out from academia to establish an independently fundable entity, & recruited & managed an international multi-disciplinary product team to build & launch medical software for vision screening programmes. I also delivered groundbreaking NGO & Government partnerships to fund & deliver those programmes, now reaching more than 5M people annually across a dozen countries, including the world’s first national comprehensive school eye health programme. Google - Android / Head of EMEA / MAY 2009 - APR 2015, LONDON & MOUNTAIN VIEWI was asked to join Android because I understood the problem—fragmentation in mobile software—and how best to deliver solutions: unitary governance, open technology, with Google’s apps to drive usage. Strong partnerships with telcos & device manufacturers overcame their disruption from Android’s third party services and open Internet access. My technical, commercial and legal understanding enabled me to deliver these foundational deals throughout EMEA and recruit a business team to scale and work cross-functionally in Google. I spent 2 years building Android adoption in Africa via compatible local partnerships & user-led products. Overall EMEA delivered €1.5B annual revenue from 300M new devices from a standing start in 7 years, along the way transforming mobile Internet into reality across mobile, tablets, wearables, auto & TV, and introducing new services for carrier billing, music, apps, games (Google Play), direct to consumer hardware (Nexus/Pixel), and retail. Google - Legal / UK & Mobile Counsel / JUN 2007 - MAY 2009, LONDONHeadhunted to the Google Legal team for my experience in mobile software, I saw an opportunity to provide a more complete legal service & was appointed joint head of legal for the UK. I also became the global mobile specialist for Legal, before being hired into the Android team to lead its launch in EMEA. Symbian / Legal Counsel / APR 2005 - MAY 2007, LONDONSymbian invented modern smartphone software & scaled to 100M devices, but was a complex joint venture between hardware manufacturers. As legal counsel I helped the executive team navigate delicate IP licensing & product strategy deals with shareholders and customers, structured reference design projects with silicon partners to build devices at scale, & enabled the engineering team to license & integrate patented technologies into Symbian’s globally licensed software development kits. Allen & Overy / Associate / Trainee Solicitor / SEP 2000 - MAR 2005, LONDONAs an IP lawyer in the Communications, Media & Technology corporate team I advised on patent protections for emerging technologies (e.g. drug discovery), & structured & negotiated large scale technology contracts. |
BoardsHotelMap.com / Non-executive Director / FEB 2018 - PRESENT, LONDONI advise the executive team on product & commercial strategy. I initiated a transition from managed services to SaaS, which dramatically expanded capacity & reach and fuelled fundraising (Seed & Series A) & scaling. Instituto Identidades Do Brasil / Board Member / MAY 2017 - PRESENT, LONDON & RIO DE JANEIROPart of my work with the executive team has been on Deb, an AI chatbot trained on antiracism research & knowhow to support private conversations about antiracism & inclusion. East London Dance / Trustee / SEP 2024 - PRESENT, LONDONI support ELD’s community & artistic work through governance advice on business growth & team resilience. |
