Dear RHHS Wildcat Parents,

I am writing to share with you that RHHS will soon begin the course registration process for next year.  This is a comprehensive process, and I am hoping this letter will help you better understand the timeline, available resources, and process students will follow to make course selections.

Timeline

Available resources

We have compiled several resources in an effort to help students and parents complete the registration process.

This is the form that you and your child will use to request courses for next year, and this form must be returned to your child’s advisement teacher on February 4th.

How can students get help with registration?

Students will have access to counselors during all lunches starting on Thursday, January 28th. We will have two counselors in each cafeteria, each lunch from Thursday, January 28th thru Wednesday, February 3rd. I

strongly encourage students to take advantage of this resource and ask counselors any questions they (or you) may have.

Our Work-based Learning Coordinator (Jennifer Sack) and Dual Enrollment Counselor (Deanna Appleton) will also be in the cafeterias during these dates. If your child is interested in pursuing WBL or DE, he/she must initiate the process by seeing either Ms. Sack or Ms. Appleton.

The registration process

Your child’s advisement teacher will use historical achievement information and course grades to determine course selections in English, math, science, and social studies.  These recommendations will be printed on a Course Registration Sheet for your child.  This sheet will be distributed to your child on Thursday, January 28th. Your child will then have until Thursday, February 4th to identify and choose the remaining course selections for next school year. Your child will need a total of 8 courses PLUS 2 alternate courses (in the event a course is full, doesn’t work in the schedule, or not enough request it and we are unable to offer it).  Once your child returns this form to his/her advisor, your work with course registration is complete!  Now, our work begins - we will spend the next couple of weeks transferring this information from registration forms to PowerSchool, our student information system.  This information is then the baseline information used as we work to build the master schedule.  Our goal is to have a schedule for each student before we leave for Summer.

Still have questions?

If you find yourself with questions, please let us know.  I suggest first asking your child’s advisor.  He/she should be able to answer the question or find the answer for you.  If you still need assistance, please contact your child’s counselor.  They are here to help, and they will do their very best to answer questions about registration. Counselors are assigned by student’s last name as indicated below:

Thank you in advance for your support of and involvement in the registration process this year.

Very sincerely,

Bivins Miller

Principal
