On 6th August, 1945 an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion immediately killed an c.80,000 people; tens of thousands more later died of radiation. Three days later another A-bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people. The events that unfold shape the Cold War and international relations. We will examine the origins of the Cold War, key turning points such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the impact of the Berlin Wall. An analysis of the war in Vietnam and international tensions will also be studied.

The Attack on Pearl Harbour was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States (a neutral country at the time) against the naval base at Pearl Harbour in Honolulu, Hawaii. This led to the USA entering WW2.
