Bayshore Middle School

Co-Curricular Activities

2026-2027

Co-Curricular Clubs

Environmental Club: for students that are interested in helping our planet and exploring different environmental activities throughout the school year.  In the environmental club we complete activities such as growing food using hydroponics, educating the school about ways to help our planet, maintaining the outdoor garden area and creating school themed reusable water bottles to sell as a fundraiser.

Math Club: Bayshore Math Club is a great club to join in order to enhance your mind and problem solving ability. Our goals are to promote enthusiasm and interest in Mathematics among the student

population, provide a platform for discussing new methods of learning and teaching Mathematics, and to improve and bring out hidden mathematical talents of our students.

STEM Club:  STEM Club is a group of students that meets regularly to work on inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related activities.  Students have the opportunity to work on a variety of concepts including LEGO Mindstorm, Robotics, LittleBits, Makey Makey, electronics, coding, 3D Printing, and other STEM activities

Newspaper: Bayshore’s Newspaper Team meets in room 111. With the Newspaper Team we produce entertainment and news for our school to read and enjoy. Newspaper is open to any student from every grade. You can write about anything that you feel passionate about (as long as it is school appropriate). We publish on our website and update new articles every week! To conclude, The Bayshore Newspaper Team is a fun after-school club that many should consider joining--there’s room for everyone here!

Student Council:  a fun opportunity for students to get involved in school events and community service. We plan fundraisers and charity collections that benefit local organizations. These include a Thanksgiving Food Drive that benefits Middletown Helps Its Own, a gift drive during the Holidays for Project Paul in Keansburg and more. Additionally, it plans fun school events such as the Halloween Dance and contests.

Yearbook Club: not just about going to some meetings.  There are many responsibilities that go along with being a Yearbook Club member.  Volunteering to take pictures is a must.  This may include taking pictures of after school sports, after school and/or weekend community functions, dances, and other school based events.  Editing and proofreading is another responsibility that goes along with being a member.  If you enjoy taking pictures, working on the computer, collaborating and brainstorming ideas with other students, then Yearbook Club is for you.

Tech Team: The Bayshore Tech Team is a student-led team of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that enjoy working with technology.  This club meets twice a month. During meeting times we have worked on creating How To Sheets for teachers, experimenting with different applications to see how they could be integrated into classrooms and participated in various technology-based competitions such as the Verizon App Challenge and the White House Film Fest. We also did the Bayshore Map and Logo redesign.

Diversity Club: Building awareness and appreciation for diversity. Members can help people connect, make friends, and feel welcome and supported. Our Diversity club helps promote respect and harmony, and work to create a safe environment for everyone. All are welcome!

Intramural Sports: Students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports for exercise, basic sport skills, and socialization. Student must follow the same registration requirements as athletes to participate (Bayshore Athletics)

Esports: Students get to compete on interactive platforms, utilizing technical skills in the new arena of electronic sports!

Peer Leaders: (ONLY FOR 8TH GRADERS) A character education program that builds leadership skills and educates middle school students about the dangers of substance use, bullying and other risky behaviors.  Students who participate as Peer Leaders are expected to serve as role models and pledge to be free of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and be an upstander. Peer Leaders meet twice a month after school or during lunch and provide two outreach sessions for other peers.

Co-Curricular Performances

Bayshore Musical Production:  Students will explore all aspects of creating a theatrical production. Student actors apply the study of literature, music, and performance to the preparation and performance of a fully-produced musical each spring. Student crews design and create props, sets, makeup and hair design, and assist with costumes, publicity, and other important elements of technical theater.

Sixth Grade Band: is designed for students who have played a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument for at least one year.  Since band functions as a “pull out” special at our elementary schools, students should not be intimidated in registering for this class. The class will meet during school, every other day, with performances and one rehearsal taking place outside of the normal school day for each of the winter and spring band concerts.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Band (Gold Band): serves as a continuation for students with two or more years of previous band experience. We will continue to develop fundamentals and techniques needed to play more challenging music. Gold Band students will also have the opportunity to participate in our district's Annual Concert Band Festival, Music in the Parks Festival and may also apply for the Tri-M Music Honor Society at the end of the year.

Jazz Band (Blue Notes): The Jazz Band is open to all  instrumentalists with experience.  Commitment to rehearsals and at-home practice is key.  All band instruments are welcome to play.  The jazz  band will also have a rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass guitar and drum set).  The “Blue Notes” meet every Tuesday until 3:45 p.m. The Blue Notes have multiple performance opportunities and are considered our top tier group.
