Coaches: Update Congressional Debate Judges on Tabroom.com

Accurate information you input pertaining to judges you provide helps us run the most fair and efficient tournament possible.

Coaches: please update your Congressional Debate by clicking on their name in the registration area for the tournament (Judges tab, select category “Congress”).

Next, click the edit icon next to the name of the judge.

Then, edit any important notes pertinent to the current tournament in the top of the two notes fields. Conflicts with other schools and/or individual competitors is helpful. That does not always come through in the judge’s own Tabroom account, so please discuss with them any potential conflicts; that helps us save time and anguish later.

Conflicts for particular times should be noted; be mindful this may result in assessment of “uncovered judging fees” for a tournament.

If the judge is a qualified parliamentarian (i.e., they have any kind of experience serving in that role at a tournament and/or have been trained to do so), please check that box. We really need qualified parliamentarians to ensure the tournament runs smoothly; former competitors are often effective as they understand procedures and protocols.  Serving as a parliamentarian means that for the preliminary session, that judge would remain with the chamber for all three rounds, rank all the students holistically at the end of Round 3, and write aggregate comments only (versus speech-by-speech) without providing individual point scores. They also would advise student presiding officers on procedural issues, but can always message tournament officials for assistance in that regard.

If a judge does not personally know your own students, please mark them as neutral.

If the student is a recent high school graduate (often called a “first-year-out”), please mark them as such. That flags them to not be used for later elimination rounds whenever possible.
