Revelation 17 | They are called, chosen, and faithful (17:14). True believers respond to their calling by remaining faithful to Christ and His words (cf. Eph 4:1). |
Revelation 18 | Whether in our thinking or actions, we must not take part in the sinful desires of the world. Rather than follow the materialistic trends and pursuits of the world, we must be transformed by the renewing of our minds and walk according to God’s will (Rom 12:1, 2; cf. Jas 4:4; 1Jn 2:15-17). |
Revelation 19 | The church has made herself ready through the righteous acts of the saints (8). In other words, believers have kept themselves from the evil pollutions of sin and have watchfully waited for the Lord’s return. Revelation 22 | It brings life to the holy city so that the tree of life may yield fruit every month and its leaves may provide healing. In the same way, the Holy Spirit brings life to the believers so that they may bear fruit and manifest the nature of God. The healing of the leaves may represent the comfort and restoration that the Holy Spirit brings to us (cf. Ezek 47:7-12). Today, the true church is characterized by constant renewal of the Holy Spirit, which brings out the new life of God in the believers (cf. Rom 8:9- 11; Tit 3:5-6). |
Matthew 1 | The coming of Jesus to the world brought God’s salvation to His people. God’s grace and deliverance had come to His people through Jesus. |
Matthew 2 | Herod actually had no intention whatsoever to worship Christ. So he did not even make an effort to look for Jesus. Instead, he simply asked the wise men to report his whereabouts. The wise men, on the contrary, earnestly and persistently inquired of the people and sought for the king until they finally reached the house where Jesus was. It was to such people that God provides guidance and revelation in their search. |
Matthew 3 | A voice has no form or identity. John clearly knew his role as a forerunner. He did not want to vie for any authority or glory. He faithfully announced the coming of the one who was greater than him and directed everyone’s attention to Jesus (Jn 3:25-30). A voice in the wilderness reflects the insignificance of its presence. Instead of being spread in the city squares, it echoed in a desolate place. But the unmistakable voice in the wild drew people out of the cares of their busy environments into the lonely desert where they could focus on their need for repentance. |
Matthew 4 | Satan misused the Scriptures in order to make his case strong. Such application of God’s word for self-justification or gratification is the source of error. Jesus’ quotation of God’s word, on the contrary, were all based on the truth in God’s words and a sincere obedience to God’s authority. Therefore, we should not use God’s word to justify ourselves for our selfish gain. Instead, we ought to study and apply God's word with the intent to know and obey God’s will. |
