Alstrom Athletic Scholarship

Carol and Susan Alstrom were outstanding athletes at FHS.  This scholarship is being offered to one

male and one female senior at FHS with the

following criteria:  have participated in at least one sport your senior year; GPA of 2.0 or higher;

attending a technical school or college the fall of

2023 with studies in teaching, health-related field, or coaching; and have shown leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship.  Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Memorial Scholarship

Edward W. Backus was key in the development of Koochiching County.   Mr. Backus and his son

The Derek White Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of Derek White.  

Derek was a 2013 graduate of FHS and was passionate about playing hockey.  Applicants must be a senior at FHS

and participating in the hockey program during their senior year.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Lee C. Anderson Memorial Scholarship

Lee Charles Anderson, was a 1976 Falls High School graduate, a drummer in the Dirty Dozen and Falls High School Band, and a Meteorologist and a Administrator with the National Weather Service. Lee’s lifelong passion for Music and Science is the reason this Scholarship is so specific.  

 

Applicant Must be pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Music, Chemistry, Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Planetary Science, Meteorology, Geology, Volcanology, Oceanography, Mathematics, OR have been involved in the FHS Music Program.

Applicant must be a current high school student, attending classes and demonstrate with a letter from school to be receiving a diploma upon your high school graduation. Applicant need not be employed in the broadcasting industry. Applicant must verify acceptance by, or enrolled at an accredited post-secondary educational institution.

Tony Lynch Memorial Scholarship

$200

Tony Lynch has often been described as the “best all-round athlete to ever graduate from Falls High

School”.  This memorial scholarship was established through donations from friends,

Community members, classmates, and family.  The parameters for this scholarship are based on

excellence in both athletics and academics as

Exemplified by Tony during his high school years.  

The FHS senior receiving this scholarship must excel in a minimum of two sports and achieve a GPA (3.5 preferred).

This scholarship is given in memory and honor of

Donald Villalta Sr., and Richard Villalta.  Both Don

Sr. and Rick were graduates of Falls High School;

Don in 1947 and Rick in 1979.  Don was a teacher in the system for 32 years.

Wallace Haglund Memorial Scholarship  

Wallace Haglund taught several subjects during his  

37 year career at ISD 361.  He is very well known for his Clock Works program where he taught

Students of all ages to make grandfather clocks.

North Star Electric Cooperative Scholarships

To qualify, your parent/guardian must be an active member of North Star Electric Cooperative and you must take a test about your Cooperative that provides electricity to your home. North Star Electric will be awarding five scholarships, one $1,000 and four others, plus a chance to win one of eight $100 cash awards just for scoring over 60% on the test. Most of the test answers will be included in the study material that North Star provides. A few hours of study time could pay off with a $1,000 scholarship.

Scholarship Program Details:

Packaging Corporation of America is excited to offer scholarships to students interested in

pursuing a degree in the electrical, pipefitting, millwright, machinist, diesel mechanics, and

instrumentation fields. This is a full-tuition scholarship that will also cover the cost of

student’s required textbooks for each enrolled class.

Disabled American Veterans Minnesota chapter 7 scholarships

Must be majoring or planning to major in any trade, technical, or institutions of higher learning associated with DAV. Have a direct relationship to ONE of the following: A direct relative would include: a son, daughter, grandchild, and would include legally adopted children and grandchildren. A member of the disabled American Veterans organization or disabled veteran.  An active duty or retired Military member. An honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States. If the applicant has no direct relatives in one of the above categories, but the applicant is a JROTC or CAP Cadet, they are deemed to be eligible for the scholarship. A minimum of four 8th District scholarships ranging from $250 to$600 will be awarded to students residing in or attending school in the Minnesota State Horticultural Society 8th District. Eligibility Criteria: Recipients must have graduated (within the last 2 years) from a high school offering

(Hibbing, Mesabi Range Eveleth or Virginia, or Itasca). Preference will be given to students enrolled in an

George D. Bateman Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Bateman grew up in southern Indiana and received a diploma from DePauw University in

Greencastle, Indiana. His teaching career brought him to Gilbert, Minnesota, where he met his wife,

Bernice (“Barnie”). In 1945 they moved to

International Falls with their two sons (David and

Robert) where he continued his teaching career at

Falls High School with a social studies curriculum until his retirement. He and his wife continued to

live in the local area through the rest of their lives, and had expressed the desire to give something

back to the community they so much enjoyed.  This

scholarship program has been established to assist graduating seniors of Falls High School (FHS) in

International Falls, Minnesota, who plan to continue their education in college or vocational

school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an

accredited institution of the student’s choice.
