General Science Stuff

  • Check out this cool Brusspup Illusions & Science youtube video on 10 Amazing Science Tricks using liquid!
  • Think back on your own school days and remember the teacher who used the first days of school to read the classroom rules or review the seating chart... and do the exact opposite! You want your students to leave the first day of school bursting at the seams with experiences to talk about at the dinner table! Check out this awesome video for inspirational ideas!!
  • NSTA: Check out the National Science Teachers Association website for some great Science resources.

Biology

  • College Readiness Skill: Moodle Forum allows your students to communicate with you and each other via forum entries. They can answer prompt questions and share information as a virtual online discussion board environment. For example, students can compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells or can compare characteristics of organisms in different kingdoms.
  • Curriculum Integration Idea: Podcast are a creative and informative way for students to exhibit knowledge of important objectives. Students can work individually or in groups using smartphones to make audio recordings of themselves listing the characteristics of each of the six kingdoms. Listing the Type of cell (pro-, eu-, genetic material, number), Cell Wall (presence and type), Environment, Mode of nutrition, Reproductive method, Motility.
  • Technology Integration Idea: Check out this Bozeman Science video on Classification.

Chemistry

  • College Readiness Skill: The glossary feature of Moodle allows users to create and maintain a list of definitions, like a dictionary. Glossary can be used in many ways, the entries can be searched or browsed in different formats and can be a collaborative activity or be restricted to entries made by the teacher for student use. It can be used to describe the experiments done by Dalton, Rutherford, Thomson, and Bohr and explain their contributions to the modern atomic theory Directions for setting up a glossary http://goo.gl/Yjfpuc. Directions for students using a glossary http://goo.gl/0bRyCm.
  • Curriculum Integration Idea: Infographics are a fun and visually appealing way to communicate information. Students can create infographics to explain the relationships between energy, frequency, and wavelength of light using E=fλ. They can use Piktochart, Easi.ly, and Canva to create the infographics.
  • Technology Integration Idea: Plickers offers a quick and easy way to get instant feedback in your class. Automatic student feedback with just one device! Check out this great intro tutorial on how to setup Plickers for your class. Plickers could be used to review the students on how to identify the s, p, d, and f sublevels given a periodic table.

Physics

  • College Readiness Skill: Skyward Quizzes is a fast and easy way to test your students’ comprehension of a subject. It can be used alone or is also a great tool to use along with your flipped lesson. Students can take the quiz on their smartphones and once they submit their answers, Skyward grades it and enters the grade straight into your Gradebook! Students can know their grade on the quiz before the end of the class period.
  • Curriculum Integration Idea: Quizlet has improved with Quizlet Live.  It’s a review quiz game that allows individual and team participation. This would be a great and fun way to review students for semester exams. Use your Google Apps login information to access the program.
  • Technology Integration Idea: Checkout this Toolbox Method video on introducing the "Toolbox" method of solving projectile motion problems! Here we use kinematic equations and modify with initial conditions to generate a "toolbox" of equations with which to solve a classic three-part projectile motion problem.
