CLASSES TAUGHT, BEING TAUGHT NOW, or WILL BE.

This visual arts program teaches fundamentals of art processes and applications in an effort to encourage, inspire, educate and prepare elementary through college prep, as well as any age adult, either as supplemental enrichment classes or as academic course studies in preparing the serious student in their visual artistic advancement in the Visual Arts; Fine Arts or Illustration & Graphic Design. It’s purpose is to teach specialities or disciplines in the visual arts including printmaking, sequential arts and commercial illustration in ways that are in keeping with the technological revolution and through real-life applicable ways such as competitions, community involvement, and publishing. The classes in the list are mostly ongoing and a few are offered upon demand. As an understanding, these art instruction studies are categorically ART COACHING, ENRICHMENT, DIGITAL STUDIES, CONVENTIONAL ACADEMICS and COMMERCIAL ART ACADEMICS.

It’s a pleasure to get to know new students. We artists are always students and therefore, always learning and we know how important it is for students to have the right teacher. No matter the age or the skill level of the student, there’s a lot to offer out there. As an art teacher and artist myself, I would like to assist you in finding a fit for your artistic interests. If I can’t personally help you through any of the classes I instruct, then I want to do what I can to help you connect with another well qualified teacher or school in the area. One way I can help you is by filling out our short Jot Form at the top of this document. We hope this will speed up the process of you finding what you need.  You may contact me any time at 404-918-9198 or email me at pinwheelart@charter.net.

Thanks -Mr. K.

ART COACHING Month-Long Mastering Program

Middle School through High School.
Private and semi-private art coaching (tutoring) sessions are for middle school and high school students who want specific direction in gaining skills and knowledge in how to draw and paint better. This coarse digs deep into assessing where the student is in his/her development, helps determine what direction they need to take their art-making towards a successful entry into a continued education or prospective work. Through an ambitious and smart one-month plan, the student is directed in pinpointing misguided habits or assumptions and guided with information and techniques that will truly make a difference in one or both of two objectives; to make sure the student knows how to draw well, and to make sure there is a plan set up for getting better at making certain kinds of art that will enrich their portfolio. For more details, go HERE.

4 classes        $100- $150/mo.

Through  evaluation of student’s level, age, & their future ambitions, while in this program, students will, as well, build an effective list of art supplies they need on hand.

Young Artists & Designers Working Together For A Greater Good

Art & Design Society Meets
Middle School through High School
In this class/workshop the student will learn about many aspects of working as a team in creating a product and carrying out a public relations campaign through developing and advertising an idea that promotes a cause. This is an opportunity as a young creative person to learn about community service, and how creative people can contribute. They will be involved in taking a good promotions campaign and making it better through advertising, art production, and gain public awareness and feedback through having a “launching” day. This community class is a fine way to learn a lot about team importance and it serves as a means for a group of art students to work together to effectively create a Concept, Build and Promote an Advertising Campaign for a Ministry or Business. Any previous or current student of Mr. Kennedy

$12/hr. Discount given to previous or current students of Mr. Kennedy/ Pinwheel Art School.

Students need to bring a sketchbook, their basic drawing supplies and any independent project they want to work on.

Student will be interviewed on what they want to accomplish and would like help with.

Homeschool Student Art & Design Society of Gwinnett  Middle School through High School

Just like the Student Art & Design Society but specifically for Homeschoolers. One art campaign in the works is the work on creating a robot costume to show it off at a public event like Suwanee’s Arts in the Park. On the robot will be a QR code from which event participants may scan with their phones to pull up information about a particular entity, event, cause or whatever the students have designed an ad campaign around. The Art & Design Club student gains experience, knowledge and participation in a number of rewarding assets including Research & Development, Drawing Skills, Design & Planning, Advertising and Public Relations as well as Community Service Awareness. Also, during and after the launch, data will be collected for review and discussion by the team to study the effectiveness and outcome of the project. After careful critique, students work on revisions and solutions to make the project better and more effective or to move on to a new project. This community class is a fine way to learn a lot about team importance and it serves as a means for a group of art students to work together to effectively create a Concept, Build and Promote an Advertising Campaign for a Ministry or Business. Any previous or current student of Mr. Kennedy

$12/hr. $10/hr. to previous or current students of Mr. Kennedy/Pinwheel Art School.

Art Club        classes 5th through 12
Art Club is an on-going enrichment class offering a variety of art projects, introducing the student to different media materials and art processes. The teacher’s objective is to regularly assess each student’s work and skill level and offer them the particular guidance they need. As the teacher learns more about the individual student’s needs and interests, the class shapes itself through the teacher’s occasional re-planning the schedule of projects in order to best serve and challenge each student. The class could start off in drawing but, depending on the interests or needs of the students in that group, the projects might change to 3d projects using clay for several sessions. Depending on the ages and chemistry of the class and other factors, the teacher works at controlling the direction of instruction with an effort for each student to find their strengths, be inspired to accept challenges and above all, to understand drawing skills. With that said, the teacher’s ultimate objective is that, along with the student’s exposure to art processes and media materials and drawing skills, the student should thoroughly enjoy their time with no pressures of being graded.

Art Club Events  1+ hr classes, 5th through 12
Hosted by the Art Club, these events are special enrichment activities, workshops or other events for young art students and their friends to come together for art and fun. These get-togethers might be a special project for a school or the community, or a workshop to learn something new like how a website is designed and administered and used to help bring students together, or to collaborate with the A&D Society on an Art & Design Club project. These events can be initiated by anyone who would like to plan something special to bring young artists together for making new friends, to gain experience in something new in being creative.

Community Art Classes
Middle School - High School
This class works in some ways alot like the Art & Design Club but might only take place in the classroom as opposed to executing an idea out in the field. (see Homeschool Student Art & Design Society of Gwinnett). This class sometimes serves as a predecessor to Art & Design Club. Students execute projects that teach about the fundamentals of art and design and how the principles of design (balance, harmony, etc.) can be successfully used through the elements of art and design (line, shape, color, etc.) See Elements and Principles of design.

1hr   $12

A one-time semesterly fee of $40 covers art materials the students need.

ART’ORIUM

This class is suitable for most students from 7 years old to Middle School.

Art projects consist of drawing with different media, painting with watercolors, crafting with paper, working with clay. We have a lot of fun and learn a lot, for instance, designing a toy or product, character development, 3 dimensional study with clay, paper, and other materials. Writing is one creative process I always invite students to include in any way creatively. If their project includes the character they created out of clay I may encourage them to consider venturing into a story or poem with that character in which they could illustrate.  MORE INFORMATION.

WEBSITE DESIGN I and II
Middle School through High School
This class is for high schoolers and adults of any age. Through my 7 years of building websites with SiteKreator and GoCentral Website Builder, I will share everything I have learned including tips and tricks to help save money and time and create a website that will best serve the student’s pursuit whether it is a place to show off their talent or to show off a business in a professional way and to sell a service or a product. The art student will write a Bio, a simple Business Plan, collect original images to construct their own website. The student can also get advice and help on their resume and in particular, the student will learn how to write an effective contract for commissioned work.  This class is not just for artists and can be for any business plan, product or mission. The cost is $15/hour plus the cost of whatever the student wants to spend on keeping and running the site and owning a domain. I have learned a lot from mistakes that you don’t have to make. The art student who does not need to take this class but needs help with preparing their portfolios for senior year (recommended for as early as 1oth grade), they should take a Portfolio Builder Workshop.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION
FOR INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
High School

This drawing class allows the student to learn proper ways to draw with a pencil and paper as well as working digitally. One beneficial way illustrators work is working on paper itself or on a tablet with good drawing software tools through sketching- tracing- redrawing- and then working color behind your line work in layers. If the drawing is done conventionally on paper, then a good high-resolution scan needs to be made and brought into a good graphics software to execute color and finish the illustration. This class may include students with or without a computer. Some students might work only on paper in this class yet be exposed to computer graphics and/or the drawing tablet.

1 hr  $12

$50 materials fee to secure tablet and stylus per semester.

DIGITAL DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS & UP
Middle School & High School

Join this fun class where you can not only share ideas and great art that you have created but also learn to use your tablet as you learn better how to draw through exercises and challenges and instruction. Bring your tablet.

Watercolor Class I, II, and III
Students study the basics of watercolor through a series of exercises and projects that teach the fundamentals of wet medium painting. A variety of still life compositions will be painted and instruction given that points out understanding of color theory, paper and brush care, light and reflected light and color. In my experience, different ages and levels are fine together in most of my classes.  From years of teaching homeschoolers I have seen proof of that. After all, it’s a good opportunity for students to mentor and others to be impressed and inspired. Instruction is taught to the group and in individual critique as best suited each student. There can be much taken away from whatever the chemistry of the group of students is as it has to do with beginner through advanced stages in any student’s artistic level.  SUPPLY LIST

Relief Printmaking
In the Relief printing technique, the artist sketches a composition on a block of material and then cuts away pieces from the surface, leaving a raised area which will receive the ink.  A roller is then used to apply ink to this raised surface and the image transferred to paper with a press or by hand burnishing or rubbing.  Since the recessed, cut-away areas do not receive ink, they appear white on the printed image.  Relief prints are characterized by bold dark-light contrasts and an impress into the paper of the inked lines.  The primary relief techniques are woodcut, wood engraving, and linocut.
