The Directory of Community Services in Stuart, Patrick County, and outside agencies serving Patrick County (“The Resource Guide”) is provided as a public service to Stuart and Patrick County residents.  Inclusion in this publication does not constitute approval or endorsement of any of the agencies or organizations listed herein by the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce and the                 Healthy Patrick County Team.

This document is the culmination of more than two years’ research and planning conducted by teams of Patrick County citizens, medical professionals, nonprofit partners, economic development leaders, emergency managers, various experts, members of the faith community, and interested in others. The process was led by the Virginia Department of Health, West Piedmont District. This is Patrick County’s first Community Health Needs.

This resource booklet is one of the outcomes of the Health Assessment Study conducted by the Healthy Patrick County Team.

The Patrick County Community Health Improvement Plan is the result of the culmination of more than two years’ research and planning conducted by teams of Patrick County citizens, medical professionals, nonprofit partners, economic development leaders, emergency managers, various experts, members of the faith community, and interested others. Purpose:  Provide non-judgmental, quality healthcare for citizens living in Patrick County and surrounding counties in Virginia according to eligibility.

Eligibility:  Over eighteen years of age, Patrick County residents (and surrounding counties in Virginia) currently without health insurance, and whose income is at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Services Provided:  Caring Hearts Free Clinic offers medical, laboratory, pharmacy, mental health, vision, and specialty referral services.  In partnership with MedAssist, help with the costs of maintenance medications.

Purpose: To provide quality behavioral therapy/ABA services and therapeutic consultation to the developmental delayed/disabled population.

Services Provided: Mental Health Assistance for Kids (18 and younger), Advocacy, Crisis Intervention. We also provide training in autism and behavior principles in addition to educational advocacy services.  CPB Behavioral Therapy and Advocacy Services provides in-home services.

Services Provided: Citizens Against Family Violence empowers the citizens affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness by providing advocacy, education, counseling, and safety services.  Advocacy (legal, health, community services, housing, emergency transportation), Counseling (crisis, supportive), Education and Outreach (presentations and trainings, displays and events, media), Protection (emergency shelter, safety planning, emergency cell phones, pet safety).  

Note:  This project was supported from funds made available to Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Eligibility: Accepting Medicaid, Most private insurances, and self-pay.

Services Provided: Mental health assistance for adults, mental health assistance for kids (18 and younger), at risk youth, counseling (all types), court referred programs, and drug abuse. Substance abuse treatment coming soon (2020) as well as crisis intervention, after hours appointments possible.

Services Provided:  Work Adjustment Training (WAT). Sheltered Employment, Supported Employment (enclave), Skill Training, Retail Sales and Operations, Counseling, Case Management, Job Readiness Instruction, and Job Placement Assistance.

Targeted Population:  Individuals with disabilities, people with economic disadvantages, those that have a criminal record, youth at risk of dropping out or who are working with the Juvenile Justice System, individuals who have lost their job, the general public who need to enhance their skills to get back to work or find a better job.

Services Provided: The Center assists small businesses throughout all phrases of growth and development by using one-on-one counseling and education. Business owners wishing to learn how to manage a business or any other skillset can select from free courses, seminars, and workshops in the following topics:  Business startups, accounting, finance, and credit management, sales and marketing, basic business law, and economic development assistance for communities.

Purpose:  The Martinsville-Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness is committed to providing medical and primary health services at its Health Centers and through a variety of other programs, to promote health, reduce health risk factors and to increase access to medical services, primarily for the uninsured and underserved in the Martinsville-Henry County area.

Services Provided: Medication Assistance.  In addition to medication assistance, the MHC Coalition for Health and Wellness also offers mammography assistance and assistance for medically related eye exams in Patrick County for those who qualify. Our office in Patrick Co. is in the lower level of the Caring Hearts Free Clinic.

Purpose:  To provide education, supplies, and need for those families dealing with dementia.

Eligibility:  For those who have diagnosis of memory loss from their doctor.

Services Provided:  Support is given to clients and caregivers through education (training programs), resources for caregivers and families, assistance with the senior health fair, and provides supplies and equipment for patients.

Services Provided:  This is a publicly funded and managed library.  The library provides a large selection of books (audio books, fiction, non-fiction) for all age groups, local history and photos, a variety of magazines, newspapers, DVDs, games, crafts, early literacy, and special programs (including summer reading, kids story time) and internet access/links.

Purpose:  To design and deliver high-quality human services that help Virginians achieve safety, independence, and overall well-being.

Services Provided: Healthcare for adults, healthcare for kids (18 and younger), financial assistance, heating and cooling assistance, food assistance programs, childcare assistance, supplemental nutrition assistance programs or WIC, abuse (domestic, child), & prevention, adoption, adult protective services, case management, child protective services, clothing (assistance for clothing), foster care services.  We also have the VIEW program that assists with job readiness and helps income eligible people with children to either get enrolled in a training program or to get a job.

Services Provided:  The Recreation Department is responsible for administering and/or supporting a variety of recreational programs, including, but not limited to, elementary football and basketball, summer baseball leagues, soccer, adult volleyball, men’s and women’s softball, and a number of various recreation special events and programs.  The Recreation Department is also responsible for maintaining the county leased recreational facilities at Rotary Field and the Fred Clifton Park at Lover’s Leap and provides maintenance support for other county owned parks and recreational facilities.

Purpose:  To help individuals, families and the community enhance their quality of life by providing a highly effective continuum of behavioral health services, including prevention, treatment, education, and support.

Eligibility: Serve all local residents in need of assistance. Payment options are available.

Services Provided: PCS provides treatment service to individuals and families to help with developmental, emotional, mental health and substance use disorders. Services include crisis/emergency services, psychiatric services, counseling, case management, intensive outpatient treatment, peer services, office based opioid treatment, Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), parenting classes, psychosocial rehabilitation, and Community Recovery Program along with many other services. Trainings are also available for the community in Mental Health First Aid, SafeTalk suicide prevention, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), REVIVE (opioid overdose and Naloxone education training), and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).

Purpose: In keeping with the vision of Nancy Susan Reynolds, it is the mission of the Reynolds Homestead to enrich lives through engagement and outreach.        

Services Provided: Alzheimer’s, Arts (lectures, classes, organizations), Business/Community Development, Community Service and Organizations, Senior Citizen Services. The Reynolds Homestead's College for Older Adults provides fitness, health, art, and other activities for adults ages 50+. Membership fees can be waived for those needing financial assistance.

Purpose:  SAAA’s mission is to provide services and resources to promote the health, quality of life, and independence of seniors, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers.  We enable people to live with dignity and choice.

Services Provided:  Southern Area Agency on Aging funds congregate meals through STEP, Inc. (Meals on Wheels, Monday through Friday, ages 60 plus and homebound individuals), funding for home repairs for senior citizens, as well as rent assistance and utility assistance. Provides job training resources for individuals 55 and older.  Provides respite care for the caregiver of seniors requiring in-home care, transportation assistance for seniors, and funding assistance for Alzheimer’s patients.

Purpose:  To promote the well-being of children though treatment, advocacy, prevention, and education.

Eligibility: Children, aged birth-18, who are at-risk of or have allegations of sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and/or serious neglect. We also work with non-offending caregivers of alleged victims.

Services Provided: Mental health assistance for adults, mental health assistance for kids (18 and younger), abuse (domestic, child) & prevention, advocacy, case management, counseling (all types), crisis intervention.  Southern VA Child Advocacy Center also provides community outreach, provide trainings, Virginia Victim’s Fund filing assistance, forensic interviews, coordinate forensic medical assistance in Rocky Mount, VA.

Purpose:  Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society (SVLAS) is a private, non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal services to income eligible people in 17 counties and four small cities in southwestern Virginia (housing, family, and public benefits). 

Eligibility:  Low income and middle-class families. Those at highest risk include our most vulnerable populations - domestic violence victims and their children, seniors, the disabled, and veterans.

Service Fees:  None.

The mission of the CHAMBER is to provide services and support to its members; voice the position of business and industry in the County of Patrick and the Town of Stuart (herein defined as the "Trade Area") in both public and private forums; engage in activities that promote economic development, workforce training, and tourism within the Trade Area; implement training activities that enhance business and civic leadership; and engage in any business not prohibited under local, state and Federal laws and those laws governing tax-exempt organizations.
