SPORTS PREMIUM 2017-2018
Saxmundham Primary School – Sports Premium Funding
We are very pleased that the school's aim of using PE funding to develop a healthy, active lifestyle from the earliest age has led to the award of the Silver School Games Mark award and resulted in increased levels of pupil participation in physical activity (including PP children).
At Saxmundham Primary School we want all children to participate in and enjoy physical activity, and we promote healthy and active lifestyles. We aim to do this by providing a broad and balanced PE curriculum with opportunities to take part in a wide range of physical activities beyond the traditional curriculum. We aim to engage children by providing positive playtime experiences with a range of equipment. In addition we offer a range of physical activities after school and, on both day and residential trips. In KS2 there are opportunities for the children to take part in sporting competitions.
Encourage enjoyment in PE through a range of physical activities
Maximum participation in all lessons
Older pupils to take responsibility for learning by leading team activities
Pupils engage in enjoyable and challenging learning experiences
Provide a variety of sporting opportunities outside the curriculum
Develop awareness of physical development including fitness, skills and hygiene.
Celebrate achievements of children both in and out of school
Provide enrichment activities within the school day
Have links with local sports and leisure providers and promote their activities
For the curriculum year 2017/18 the school is expecting funding of £18,580 and plans to use the funding as follows:
Extra term of swimming for all year 4 children who are unable to swim 25 metres
21 children benefited from this additional swimming in the Autumn term. As at 5/12/17 the complete non-swimmers can now swim a minimum of 5 metres and many better than this but assessments are pending.
After school sports club 5 per week x 30 weeks
By making these clubs available for a nominal fee, we have enabled *** children to access additional sport sessions.
Release time for PE subject leader
This will allow our subject leader to ensure we make maximum use of our PE money and to monitor the impact more effectively.
Subsidy for Year 6 activities trip
This money will be used as required to support the children of families who may not be able to fully cover the cost of the trip themselves.
Sporting competitions – membership, entry, transport, staffing
These competitions provide an opportunity for many of our year 5 and 6 children to experience competitive sport. It increases their understanding of why we do PE in school and widens the range of opportunities open to them as some then choose to participate in these activities outside school.
Road safety for cyclists is very important. Last year 30 children in year 5 were able to access these sessions to teach them to ride their bikes safely.
Training new Sports Coach
As we transition from an external provider to using our own staff, this money will support the development of our new PE instructor.
Sporting Conference attendance
This enables our PE subject leader to ensure that she is current with best practice and also supports our drive to broaden the range of sporting experiences our children have.
Lunchtime Sports Supervisor
The appointment of a specialist play leader at lunchtime will enable many more children to be more active in an activity and will increase enjoyment of activity in our school.
Other possibilities being considered:
Y3/4 Change for Life club
Fitter Future - home/school fitness initiative Training for TAs
Last year we were able to pay for additional instructors to come into school so that all children experienced a broader range of activities. These have included orienteering, Indian dancing and Tennis.
4 day Easter Sports Club
After school sports clubs x 4 per week for Spring Term
