Listings are a summarization of scholarship information received by the Counseling office. Students should check scholarship

websites, when applicable, for specific details. Applications requiring counselor recommendation or signature should be submitted to

the Counseling office at least five school days in advance of the deadline to ensure it is postmarked by the due date. The counseling department cannot guarantee that applications received in our office on the due date will be postmarked in time.

Genesee Opportunity (GO) Stipend

Approximately $1,100

(Amount depends on how long student resided in and attended a school in Genesee County)

The Genesee Opportunity (GO) stipend provides Genesee County high school graduates with money for college, career training, or certification licensing fees. To be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Genesee County, Michigan or on a property that is taxed by a Genesee County school district
  • Graduate from a high school in Genesee County.
  • Graduates must enroll in an eligible training program or post-secondary educational institution

The GO stipend is not based on income or grades, and is funded through a millage approved by Genesee County voters. The GO stipend can only be awarded one time and must be used within the first 12 months after high school graduation or GED completion.

$4000 or $2000/2 awards

To be awarded to a graduating senior of Bentley High School who is: A member of any school athletic team during any one year in Bentley High School, be accepted to a college, university or technical school, have a 2.66 cumulative GPA or higher, exhibit good citizenship and above average sportsmanship which will be demonstrated through one or more letters of recommendation provided by the applicant, demonstrate financial need

To be awarded to graduating seniors of any high school within Genesee County with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Equal consideration should be given to Genesee County and City of Flint students, and need as well as ability shall determine deserving recipients.   Support will be provided for tuition, books and/or fees at an accredited higher education institution for a 4-year degree program.

To be awarded to Genesee County High School Graduates who: Have great potential but may have struggled in high school due to extenuating circumstances such as work, family issues, setbacks or even “late blooming”. Extra-curricular and community service activities are also heavily considered, all with a focus on the student's character, and financial need.

Bentley Education Association Scholarship

Your essay must be typed and double-spaced, focused and interesting.  Key topics should include the following: Educational Objectives and Career Goals (What college are you planning to attend, your major and why you chose it, career path). Personal Background (GPA, What’s important to you, Life experiences, Volunteer work, hobbies, extra curricular activities, what makes you exceptional)

Must be accepted to attend a  college or technical school.  

Check will be made payable to the college or technical school.

Student must submit an essay describing an obstacle or hardship that they have overcome, career goals they have set for themselves and the plan to achieve these goals.

Rotary Club of Greater Flint Sunrise

Scholarship applicants must be graduating high school seniors. In 2021, preference will be given to students who are the first member in a family to attend a college, university, or trade school. Applicants must provide a transcript showing fall semester senior year grades and must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Applicants must provide a copy of their FAFSA (or describe financial need in an essay). Applicants must provide at least one reference letter. Most colleges will offer incoming freshmen a renewable (meaning you can use it for 4 years) scholarship based on their SAT score and GPA.  Information about these scholarships can be found on the financial aid page of the college.

National/International Scholarship Competitions:

Scholarships can come from any organization that wants to offer one.  You can ask any organization/group/union that you belong to if they offer scholarships.  Check with your parent’s employer, because they often offer scholarships for their employees’ dependents (check with your own employer too). There are also search engines dedicated to helping you find private scholarships.  However, be careful when searching online for scholarships because there can be scams.  You should never have to pay for a scholarship, and do not put your information into any site that seems untrustworthy.
