• Iksar guests on Thijs’ stream at Gamescom 2018 (Twitch)

• Quest rogue has been really popular
• Don’t want lots of 90-10 polarized matchups
• Giggling not expected to be as good as it is but they want neutral taunt minions
• Not sure where they are going with wild but they are looking at it
• Counter queuing is a very controversial subject internally and externally
• Druid is good but not as broken as people though

Tournament Meta

Nope! Be aware that HGG, once again, has a super weird format. SUPER WEIRD. Pick-and-ban classes in order with visible decklists, queue 5 playable decks before game 1 and play 1 game with each, random opponents.

BUT EU playoffs are here and they are full of decklists and data. We will crunch the numbers and have it for you next week.

Games To Watch

Ins4ne (Ukraine) vs Findan (Czech Republic)

Token druid v Quest rogue

This matchup is close but tends to go towards the token druid, though not by a lot. Still, Findan's opening hand has Sonya, Shadowstep, and Brewmaster… that seems pretty solid. Both draws are kind of awkward, with no ramp for druid and no cheap minions for quest. Double violet teacher gets developed on 4-5 vs a Brewmaster getting shadowstepped… and then there are more Brewmasters through turn 6 to pop the quest reward (with of course a Prep because they always have prep).

But this is just the START of this game, and double violet teacher->power->soul is a full board! 4/4s are great, but savage roar is the end here… but there isn't one. Still, the Quest Rogue goes down to 11, and then Giggles+Scalehide starts to recover a little bit. That board gets cleared up, Malf only makes one spider because there are 6 2/2s… but guess what can attack into that? A Giggling Inventor with Sonya freshly played behind it. More 4/4s… and more 4/4s… and Sonya survives. And then next turn Giggling gets Brewmastered and played again. Sonya finally dies to Ultimate Infestation, but Findan's board has 7 4/4s! SEVEN!

But you know what's good against that? Spreading Plague… and  Soul of the Forest is in hand. Plague gets cleared Vanished and the board gets refilled on both sides, but then the second plague with soul pays off with a Savage Roar. Quest Rogue drops down to 4 life, and then life is gained back with Scalehide but removed again with UI. Both Swipes are gone, but there's a full board with 7 buffed attackers… and 5 of them are left with only 4 attacks needed to get through. Wowza.

We’re going to talk about our previous predictions, why we were right, why we were wrong, and how the meta has formed early on.

• First off: Let’s talk about the boogeyman in the room (or at least what people seemed to perceive these as): Floop, his Gloop, Dreampetal Florist, & Juicy Psychmelon.
• Giggling Inventor

• FYI - ratio at EU Prelims of GI:(MH+BK) = 8:7

• How about mechs as a whole?

• I think Magnetic is hard in general to evaluate and I think there’s a good chance we undervalue how strong it really is. That’s due to how strong cards with flexibility have been in the past (see: Druid “choose one” cards), but I think the real strength of the cards we’re seeing will be playable or not based on the environment they have. AKA, if we get solid mechs to magnetic on to: These are probably pretty solid.
• I think we should be looking at these cards in kind of the same way that we look at Power of the Wild, in that PoTW is only good in specific decks, but when it’s in a good environment, it is really awesome to play with and has a really powerful impact in how games play out.
