Workplace Checklist for Neurodiverse Employees Worksheet

Here is a checklist of possible accommodations that a workplace can offer to support neurodiverse employees.

Environmental Factors

        Sensory considerations:

• The use of noise-canceling headphones
• Ability to adjust the brightness of the lighting
• Differentiated seating options (kneeling chairs, yoga balls, etc.)
• Seating away from high-movement or high-activity areas
• Allowance for fidget devices to be used

Logistical Factors

        Considerations:

• Scheduled short breaks throughout the day for regulation
• Extra time consideration when deadlines are set
• Accessibility tools and applications (immersive reader, speech-to-text, etc.)
• Use of standardized calendar and planning application

        Management Factors

        Considerations:

• Allocation of a mentor (to assist with work and social expectations in the company)
• Frequent ‘check-in’ meetings to provide guidance and support
• Written instructions for tasks and expectations
• Development of a routine as much as possible
• Clear instructions, deadlines, and expectations to be outlined and repeated
