1. Activate Your Account

These instructions are for activating Business with a new LastPass account using your @HMC email address. Please note: if you already created a LastPass account using your @HMC email address before receiving your Business activation email, you can refer to these instructions instead.

  1. Check your HMC email for a LastPass Business invite. The subject line is Harvey Mudd LastPass Business Invitation. The beginning of the message looks like this:

  1. Click the red Activate LastPass button at the bottom.

  1. In the account activation window, enter the activation code from the LastPass email. Enter a new master password. Confirm your new master password and set an optional password hint reminder. Click Continue.

NOTE: The master password is your primary password for accessing your Vault, containing all the passwords you store in LastPass. Please make sure you can remember your master password and set recovery options in case you forget. Here are some helpful links for information about master passwords:

NOTE: If you cannot recover your LastPass Business Master Password using the self-service recovery options, contact the CIS Help Desk to request a Master Password reset. You must have recently logged into your LastPass Vault using the LastPass Browser extension for this option to be available.

  1. LastPass will confirm that you’ve set up your Master Password and ask you to install the LastPass browser extension. We recommend that you use the LastPass browser extension to get the most out of its features. For more information on the browser extension, click here.

NOTE: You can also access data stored in LastPass via the LastPass website, Windows, Mac, Linux, or mobile device.

2. Setup Duo

  1. Open the LastPass browser extension () or log in through the LastPass website, enter your HMC email and newly created master password, and click Log In.

  1. A window will open asking you to confirm your Duo Security username, with your @hmc.edu email pre-filled. Enter your HMC username in the username@hmc.edu format and click OK.

  1. You will get a confirmation that Multifactor is enabled.

3. Login

  1. Log in again through the browser extension () or through the LastPass website.
  2. After signing in, you will receive a Duo prompt. Complete the multifactor authentication as you usually would when signing into any other HMC Single Sign-On app (e.g., check your phone for push notifications).

  1. You will now be logged into LastPass.

4. Link a Personal Account (Optional)

Upon your first sign-in, LastPass will ask to link a personal account. While this is optional, we recommend that you link a personal LastPass account (e.g., a Free or Premium LastPass account created using a non-HMC email) to keep personal passwords (e.g., for social media accounts or banking) separate from your work passwords. To reiterate, please use a non-HMC email for this personal LastPass account. Please click this link for more information on linking personal accounts.

You can create a free, upgraded LastPass Premium account at no extra cost through our Harvey Mudd LastPass Premium page, which is separate from your Business account. Again, we recommend you claim your eligibility using an HMC email, but sign up with a non-HMC email as your personal LastPass account.
