Dear Parents,

I hope you had a great week-end and ready for a busy week.

Our field trip to Bishop Pumpkin Farm is October 20th.  Please note the following reminders:

  1. Be sure you brought in a white T-shirt for the field trips.  (one size too large)
  2. Be sure you have turned in your child’s permission slip & money. (Adults attending must pay also.)
  3. All drivers must turn in a copy of their driver’s license & insurance.  This also includes drivers who are only taking their own child.  It is for insurance purposes.  (Please do so before the day of our field trip.
  4. Please put lunch and disposable drink in a paper bag with name.  (We will take out their snack before we leave.  Bishop will provide apple cider for our snack when we get the)
  5. Please send a plastic grocery bag for your child to carry his/her pumpkin.
  6. Dress your child in jeans/pants, tennis shoes and sweater/jacket if needed.  (Free dress!)
  7. Parents, please take pictures!  (We need pictures for our yearbook)
  8. Please be in my classroom no later than 8:15 a.m.  (We will collect lunches, do bathrooms, and load up)
  9. Most Important!  Be sure to send a car seat  or booster.  New law requires all children to be in one.

Student of the Week:  Mailani Black will be “Student of the Week” this week.  Don’t forget to send pictures, favorite book, stuffed animal, or toys.  Also, send a special snack to share with the class.  Mailani will take Bubbles home for the week-end.  Be sure to return him on Monday.

Red Ribbon Week:  Red Ribbon Week starts October 23-25!  We will talk about how God created our bodies and we should not put things in it that are harmful.  I am leaving the responsibility of how much to tell your child about drugs up to you.  I realize that some of the children have never been told about drugs yet.  We will pick a theme for our class and decorate the wall facing the G building.  Be sure to come by and see it.  The kindergarten will color a poster in class and one winner will be picked from each class. On Wed., the 25th. your child will be permitted to wear red. Have your child wear lots of red! We will have a guest speaker

at chapel.  The whole school will be wearing red that day. We will take a class picture in front of our poster.

Picture Retake:  We have scheduled October 24th to take your child’s school picture if your child was absent, new student, or you were unhappy with the pictures.  Please bring your packet that day so we can turn it into LifeTouch.  Free dress for those who are retaking their pictures.

Parent Teacher Conference: We are scheduling conferences on line this year.  Please click the link to schedule.  If you have any problems, please let me know. [LINK] Conferences will take place Thurs., Oct. 26th, (minimum day) from 1:00-5:00 p.m. & Fri.; Oct. 27th (No school) 8:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Conferences will be 30 minutes long.  On Thursday, school will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m.  We will meet you at the gate unless your child is going to daycare.

Share Day:  (Thursday) Please allow your child to bring something that begins with the letter (Gg).  I told the children if they forget to bring a share thing on Thursday, they have permission to bring it on Friday.

With the cooler weather upon us, the jackets and sweaters are out.  Please label your child’s outwear with his/her name as so many of them are similar (lots of navy blue) and the children don’t always recognize theirs.   Also, for parents of girls: if your girl wears a dress or skirt, be sure she also wears shorts underneath.  Bike shorts work really well.  Thank you!

Working together,

Mrs. Horn

This week we will be working on the following areas:

Math:  We will introduce a measurement unit this week.  We will also review numbers 1-10 and started working on our Fall Book.  We plan to make pumpkin muffins on Monday so I can demonstrate using measuring tools.

Bible:  We will introduce “Tower of Babel” this week.  Bible Verse:  We will work on “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands”  Psalm 100:1.

Character Trait:  Listening (Listening with my ears, my eyes, and my heart) We will hear Bible and today stories centered around this character trait.

Phonics:  We will work on the letters (g & f) and review the vowels. We will also read different versions of “Goldilocks & the Three Bears” and act out the story.  It will be fun.

Language Arts:  We will start reading the different versions of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”.  We will act out the play this week and next.  The children are very excited and will have great fun. We will also read about the life of Johnny Appleseed.  I will introduce new vocabulary words and read a few pages of the book each day followed by comprehension questions. We will watch an animated movie of Johnny Appleseed when we finish the book.

Social Studies/Science:  We will continue our unit on pumpkins this week. I will be giving out pumpkin awards for those that can tell me how a pumpkin grows.
