Updates and Reminders for the week ending 10.6.23

This Week We…

Math: Students counted the total value of ones, tens, and hundreds with place value disks.  They also exchanged 10 ones for 1 ten, 10 tens for 1 hundred, and 10 hundreds for 1 thousand.  Students problem solved in situations with more than 9 ones or 9 tens.

Phonics:  We continued Unit 4, adding suffixes to basewords: -es, -s, -ing, -ed, -er, -est.  Our trick words are: again, please, animal, sure, use, used

Science/ Social Studies: We began discussing Earth’s rotation and revolution, which give us days/nights and seasons.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL):October is Dyslexia awareness month. Dyslexia affects up to 1 in 5 people, but the experience of dyslexia isn't always the same. This week we read Brilliant Bea by Mary Vukadinovich, and discussed how everyone’s brain and experience with learning is different. Older students will learn more about Dyslexia with The Dr. Binocs show, and adults can learn more from this Ted Ed video.
