We have a variety of clubs available to students during and after school. These clubs are run or sponsored by our Dove teachers and staff. This handy brochure will briefly discuss each club and provide sign up information at the bottom.

Dove PTA Art Club

Art Club is a PTA sponsored after-school club for students interested in visual arts and creative development. It is designed for students who already enjoy doing art, especially painting. Students need to have the ability to listen to instruction, sit still, use supplies accordingly, and learn with attention and good behavior to complete art projects. We will be completing a painting project in stages for campus display. This club is open to all third and fourth graders. A $20 fee covers the Art Club t-shirt and art supplies. This club will have a max capacity of 20 students.

Bluebonnet Book Club
Sponsor: Ms. Diggs
The Bluebonnet Book Club encourages third, fourth and fifth grade students to read the current selection of twenty Bluebonnet nominees in order to participate in the Texas Bluebonnet election in January. Members of this club will be recommended by the classroom teachers. In order to stay in good standing with the club, students must read the assigned chapters of their book each week and participate in the in-person and online book discussions. The club will run through January 28, when the members will vote for their favorite book.
Meeting days and times: Beginning October 22, every Monday during third, fourth, and fifth grade Dolphin Time in the library

Cardio Club is an after school program for 3rd-5th grade students, parents and staff to improve their fitness level. Students will set personal goals and be given incentives to help them reach these goals. Their mileage will be recorded each day. When they reach 5 miles they will receive a sticker on their chart. Every 10 miles they will receive a tennis shoe on a chain and a sticker. Younger siblings are only allowed if accompanied by a parent. Cardio Club is supported by our wonderful PTA representative Mrs. Brenee Mitchell. Please contact Brenee if you are interested in volunteering to help with Cardio Club. All cardio club members should be on the field or in the gym ready to go by 3:00. Students need to wear tennis shoes and bring a water bottle. No electronics are allowed. We will provide appropriate music. All students will follow the rules that are established for cardio club. Students who choose not to follow the rules will not be allowed to remain in the club. If the weather or field conditions don't permit us to be outside on Mondays, we will be jumping rope in the gym. On Wednesdays we will have to cancel. Parents will be notified by 2:00 by email. Please be prompt picking up your child by 3:45. If you are unable to pick up your child on time please notify the school, Mrs. Mitchell, or Coach Walker. Otherwise your child will be taken to Kidzu, after school care, and you will be charged a fee. If you are late 3 times your child will no longer be able to attend.

Dove Choir is open to any 4th or 5th grade student who remains in good standing. Students must maintain passing averages on progress reports and report cards, maintain quality conduct grades in all classes, maintain quality behavior in choir, and have good attendance in school and choir.
Meeting days and times: Tuesday afternoons from 2:55 until 3:45pm. First rehearsal will be Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Additional rehearsals for cast parts will take place on Monday afternoons from 2:55 until 3:45pm.

Christmas Cooking Creations Club

Open to students in Kindergarten through second grade, this club will meet on Wednesday afternoons starting November 28 to create Christmas snacks and crafts! The last meeting will be December 19. A $10 supply fee must be submitted with the application form. Enrollment in this club is capped at 20 students.

Coding Club is designed for 3rd-5th grade students who are interested in understanding and applying computer science concepts, learning how to code, and writing code to solve problems. Each student is expected to:
Be a collaborative team member and problem solver for team activities
Be creative and have fun!
Coding club is limited to 20 participants who will be chosen by lottery.
Meeting days and times: 1st and 3rd Wednesday afternoons from 3:00- 3:30 beginning October 3rd.

Fifth graders are exposed to and get to experience other cultures and traditions; students are ambassadors for 8th Annual World Friendship Day at Dove. They help plan, set up and run the event with Mrs. Mery.
Meeting days and times: Last Monday of the month from 2:55-3:55 in Mrs. Mery’s classroom. First meeting will be September 24, 2018. Parents will need to be available for pick up after the meeting is over.

Dolphins Taking Action

We are a group of students who are passionate about taking action and making a difference at Dove and in our community. We will incorporate our IB Action Cycle in our meetings and decision-making. Students in second through fifth grade are welcome to join. This club will be capped at 25 students.
Meeting days and times: First Monday of each month starting October 1 from 3:15-4:00 pm in room C6
Dove Dynamic Drummers
Sponsor: Mr. Strang
Students in fourth and fifth grade will learn and practice drumming skills as well as perform at various events. Sign up sheets were posted in the fourth and fifth grade classrooms the second week of school. Tryouts were Friday, August 31, 2018 after school. There are additional fees associated with Dynamic Drummers. Please see the website, linked below, for more information.

Gamers, Inc. is a Board Game Club that will meet in Room C4 each Monday morning from 7:00-7:45. Club meeting dates are December 3 through February 25.
Students will learn to play a new generation of board games that encourages problem solving, logical thinking, cooperation, communication and leadership skills. This 12 week club will focus on 3-4 board games that require up to 45 minutes per game.

Do you enjoy building things? Then engineering is the place to be. Third through fifth graders will research different structures around the world, then using different materials, such as wood, Legos, and clay try to replicate them in model size. We will have an exhibit in the spring "showing off" our knowledge and structures. Parent volunteers are welcome! Materials from home will be requested at times. This club will cap at 20 students.
Meeting Dates and Times: The club will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in room C2 from 2:45 to 3:30pm, beginning October 3.
KC (Kindness and Compassion) Club

Dove Elementary is a great place to be and we are a school that prides itself on being kind and compassionate. Throughout the year, KC Club will host service projects by grade level in which students may participate. We hope you will plan on spreading kindness and compassion to those within our school and community! KC Club is open to fourth and fifth graders this year.
Meeting days and times: The second Wednesday of the month during grade level recess in Mrs. Hill’s room beginning October 10th.

KDOV (Morning Broadcast)

KDOV is our daily morning news show. Students in this group are responsible for delivering the news over a live feed every morning in a professional manner. Students rotate between jobs on and off camera so they gain experience in all positions. KDOV crews run in three week shifts, so students must be able to make the commitment to show up on time each morning when it is their KDOV time. This club is limited to fifth grade students during the first semester. Fourth grade students will audition in December.

The Lego Club allows Kindergarten through second grade students the opportunity for teamwork and creativity to engineer works of art. They will be challenged to build a variety of structures. This club will be capped at 15 students, who will be chosen by lottery.

Fourth and fifth graders will explore science in a hands on manner. The members will conduct experiments that reinforce the science TEKS.

Safety Patrol helps with duty in the front helping students get out of their cars, helping at the front crosswalk, at the bus circle helping students get out of cars, in the halls and in the cafeteria with the younger students. Safety Patrol is a privilege for fifth grade students and they should keep their grades up and model excellent behavior. There are 2 groups. Group 1 is on duty the first 5 weeks starting August 27. Then Group 2 begins the week of October 9 and then it alternates every 5 weeks. Please see the Safety Patrol calendar for what group your child is in and when they are on duty.

Student Ambassadors is an opportunity for our students at Dove to focus on building their communication and leadership skills. Ambassadors will help escort parents and students throughout the building during special events as well as greeting visitors and facilitating a walking tour during their visit to Dove during the day. This club is open to fourth and fifth grade students. Applicants will interview for the positions before being selected.
Meeting days and times: The first Wednesday of each month from 1:00-1:30 (4th recess/5th lunch recess) in the multi-purpose room (A7). Additionally, students will have opportunities to assist with school events.

Dove World of Dance
Sponsor: Mrs. Hilton
Second through fifth grade students will learn steps to an international dance, while also learning about the geographic location, language, and other culturally specific information regarding the country of origin.
Meeting days and times: First and third Fridays from 3 until 3:45pm in the library, beginning October 19. This club will be capped at 25 students.
