SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. -- The Bradley Central Bearettes defeated McMinn County, 59-40, on Saturday afternoon in the District 5 AAA tournament semifinals.

Kaitlynn Hennessee got the scoring started off with a traditional three-point play 22 seconds into the game and the two teams went back and forth over the next two minutes. Bradley (26-3) was finally able to go on their first run of the evening ended the first quarter with an 11-3 stretch to take a 16-9 lead into the first break.

Neither team could get the offense going in the second frame as they combined for 17 points. The Bearettes were able to stretch their lead one more point and took a 25-17 lead into the half.

Bradley opened up the second half on a 9-1 run started with an Anna Walker jumper and ending with a Walker three. With the Bearettes in the bonus, the home team was able to end the quarter on a 5-2 spurt to take a commanding 44-27 lead after three quarters.

In the final period, Bradley was able to extend their lead to the largest of the night on a Walker three off an Amelia Reuter assist with 3:35 left in the fourth. Kelsey Carman had a putback in her first game back to wrap up the game just before the buzzer as Bradley picked up the 59-40 victory.

The Bearettes were paced by Walker with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Jamaryn Blair pitched in with 10 points as Alexis Barnes had nine points and six boards with three blocks. Reuter was able to pull down five rebounds as Cambree Mayo had half of the team’s six assists. Blair ended the night with four assists.

Hennessee recorded a double-double as she had a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds while going 8-for-10 from the free throw line. The senior guard also led her team with two steals and recorded two blocks in the game. Whitney Green rounded out the Lady Cherokee double-digit scorers throwing in 10 points while Hannah Burns chipped in with nine. Paige Manney was able to record two blocks in the contest.

Bradley shot 40.9 percent (18-of-44) overall and 33.3 percent (7-for-21) from behind the 3-point line in the contest. The Bearettes shot 69.9 percent (16-for-23) from the charity stripe.

Bradley was able to record 13 assists on 18 made field goals. The Bearettes outscored their opponent 11-8 off turnovers, 13-6 on second chances, and 19-5 in bench scoring. The home squad won the rebounding battle 33-29.

McMinn County (21-10) was held to a 28.9 percent (13-for-45) shooting percentage and went a cold 1-for-12 (8.3 percent) from distance. The Lady Cherokees missed only three free throws going 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) from the free throw line.

Bradley Central will be back in action on Monday as they are set to take on East Hamilton in the championship of the District 5 AAA tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
