Goal 1: Achievement

To improve educational achievement by 10% with special attention to African-American students and others who are at-risk of academic failure due to socioeconomic disadvantages, or other factors by May 2020.

Interventions:

Description: These are the steps being taken to address the goal.

  • Targeted Small Groups three times per week.
  • 4th & 5th- AVID
  • Literacy Plan: Teachers are using a district provided curriculum and implementing Phonics First (K-3rd grades and Special Education) and R.I.S.E. (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence, 4th-5th grades) strategies based on the science of reading.
  • All K-5 teachers have received and will continue to receive training and demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and practices of scientific reading instruction by completing the required Arkansas Department of Ed prescribed pathways to proficiency.  
  • All new hires will receive training and demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and practices of scientific reading instruction by completing the required Arkansas Department of Ed prescribed pathways to proficiency.  

  • Various assessments will be used to monitor student progress: The Phonological Awareness Screening Test, STAR Assessments, Classroom Formative Assessments, and NWEA MAP assessment.

        

  •  K-5 teachers and the special education teacher will meet monthly with instructional coaches and administrators to collaborate about implementing Phonics First and R.I.S.E in their classrooms. Classroom observations, administrator walk throughs, and tools used for monitoring student progress will be used during collaboration to determine effectiveness of implementation of programs.

Evaluation

Teachers meet with Instructional Coaches to review data every 4 weeks to determine student growth and instructional needs of the classroom.  

Struggling students that are not making improvements will be discussed at the Grade Level RTI committee and Building Level RTI committee, if needed. Individual action plans/next steps will be created for struggling students based on their data.  

Goal 2: Performance Gap

To decrease the performance gap by 10% between white students and African-American students through the systematic design/selection and implementation of intervention programs that provide effective remediation and/or adaptation to the individual or group needs by May 2020.

To increase the number and proportion of African-American and disadvantaged students participating in extracurricular activities, gifted programs and honors, enriched, and advanced placement courses by 5% by May 2021.

To reduce the number of discipline problems and classroom disruptions caused by all students, regardless of race or background.
