Scene 1: Camera fades in This is the first day of work for Proust and he is practicing his speech in the mirror of the museum’s bathroom: Jack is in the toilet and he finds Proust annoying. | Background music as Proust practices his speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2W1Wi2U9sQ (1812 overture) -Jack yells: “Turn that shit down. I’m trying to take a crap and you’re scaring the shit back into my asshole.” |
Sam arrives to the museum and finds Daniels waiting in the lobby. Daniels gives a disappointed look because he was actually talking about rolling papers. Jack comes out of the bathroom and immediately starts complaining about an annoying guy in the bathroom (Proust). Sam then realizes that Daniels has taken his friend Jack with him so they can all take the tour together. Sam gives a disappointed look because she wanted to spend some time alone with Daniels but she tries to hide her feelings in front of them so she pretends not to be unhappy that his friend Jack had ruined her plans. | -Daniels asks Sam: “Did you bring the papers?” -Sam: “Yes! but I’m not sure of how important these papers are but I suppose there is some good information about Carrie Fisher.” -Jack: "Are there no sacred places anymore! I can’t even drop a deux without Col. Klink giving his dissertation while bumping Wagner? -Sam: “Oh! Hey Buddy?! I didn’t know you were going to be here. Hi five!” |
(The camera takes a medium close-up shot of the scene.) The group sit together at one table drinking their coffee and start planning out how they should proceed during their visit at the museum. Suddenly, Proust shows up and introduce himself officially without giving any sort of hospitality and actually pushing the formalities to end quickly taking back his hand even before the three students can shake it. | - Jack: “Reel it in before the other Narcs get jealous. I asked at the front desk if they could assign us a tour guide, this way we can record everything they say and then we can use this audio to transcribe for our paper on Monday.” -Daniels: “Greasy, very greasy. I like that! I was really getting worried, the kid who normally rights my papers had an asthma attack and may be in the hospital through midterms. -Jack: “That’s gotta be tough on you.” -Daniels: Yeah, I’ll make it through. I told him to steal me some Adderall while he’s on the inside to compensate for the shitty service I as a customer have put up with. -Sam: “I suppose you could do that, if you don’t care about plagiarism, don’t you…” -Proust: “Guten Tag! I will be your Oracle for the Museum of Moving Image. Call me Proust! Let's clarify right away that I am a professional and usually I’m not inclined to wasting my time with the sophomoric type, but we are short handed?! -Jack: “Name’s Jack.” -Daniels: “Daniels.” -Proust: “Your parents named you a plural name?” -Daniels: “My mother is a very big woman.” -Proust: “Fascinating, just some you know talking is not a necessity on this tour. Suivre cette voie! |
From one’s point of view, one can tell that Proust doesn’t care about what other people think about him and instead, he looks down on people who think that are better than him so he doesn’t care about other people’s feelings. During the first part of the tour, Behind the Screen Exhibition, he shows an arrogant humor. Sam is just listening to Proust, trying not to interrupt him because she thinks that what he saying is not right. Yet, she tries to correct him in a polite way. Sam starts to question Proust, but Proust thinks her ideas do not make sense and gives her an unpleasant look | -Proust: “Okay Sports Fans, this is the first floor of the museum and for most part it is reserved to the Behind the Screen equipment, which is usually developed during the core part of the production phase. Later, I can take you to the Jim Henson’s Exhibition, the place where you can find storyboards from different shows that were popular in the 1960’s. Over there you can see artistic elements of film that can improve a good visual storytelling…” -Sam: “I'm sorry to interrupt Proust, but did you just say that what we all are seeing right now is created during the production phase of a movie? Well, I know this is just a detail, but maybe you intended to say that all this equipment, such as artistic elements of film are quite a part of the pre-production phase. Indeed, toys, magazines and posters that we are seeing here are some examples specifically to the post-production phase. I'm pointing this out because my friends are doing a research paper for our school and they are required to be very logical and detailed-oriented. No offense for you, of course.” -Proust: “Yes! I know what I’m saying and I was about to say all that information, of course, but you didn’t let me finish before you interrupted me.” |
(The camera takes a wide shot from a high angle). The group is now on the other wing of the first floor, a section dedicated to vintage video games machines where visitors can interact with the screens. Then, Proust points at the silent movies section, where people can sit and enjoy a 5-minute video clip. | -Proust: “Right now we just moved to a section of the museum where you can admire how the video games consoles were looking like in the 1980's. We have all of them and every type of games as well. Furthermore, you can see a representation of silent movies, which can be useful for your research paper.” -Sam: “Mr. Proust, I'm so sorry to interrupt you again but I don't think this would be enough information for our research. Honestly, I was expecting more from a Moving Image Museum. This is more like antiquated form of media and I thought I was going to find some more useful information about the history of other media-services like HBO, Netflix, YouTube or even Blockbuster because in my opinion, I think these are important details for their project and for the museum itself.” -Daniels: “Hmm, she is actually right! Sam, how’s your bronchial tubes?” (With a doubtful tone). -Proust: ”First of all, nobody tells me what’s wrong and what’s right. Why do you question so much about this museum huh? Your generation always complain about little details and criticize every trivial thing. However, when someone asks you to do something you always step-back, don’t you?!” (Sigh)... “Now let's go to the upper level. We are almost done, luckily, so you can go write your Mad Lib somewhere else if you are not capable to understand this museum.I’m very busy and I don't want to waste my time with kids like you. You only talk about nonsense details on alleged museum flaws.” |
All the characters get into an elevator and are heading toward the third floor, an area where an exposition about all vintage cameras and audio records devices of the last 50 years are being displayed. Camera switch up from a medium shot to a close-up shot showing Proust’s face at the same moment when the elevator's doors are opening while he's trying to claim his experience as a videogamer back in the 80's in order to gain back his credibility in front of the young students. Meanwhile, Sam interrupts Proust once again and talks about her admiration for Jim Henson. | Sound of elevator' s doors opening: -Proust (with an irritated tone): “At this point, in order to speed up this tour, we are going to skip the Jim Henson’s Exhibition. You don’t know the importance of this famous figure since he only features old shows like Sesame Street. I don’t think you guys watched this from him so there is no need to waste time over there and you would not appreciate that part anyway so let's move upstairs.” -Sam: “That’s not true. There are a lot of characters and films that he made, which have had a big impact besides Sesame Street! Some like: The Muppet Show, the Muppet movies, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth... I assure you that you I'm a huge fan of Jim Henson and I know what I’m talking about. (provocative tone). |
Camera focus on Proust’s face thinking about how one way he can put these kids down trying to find a question for Sam so she can be quite. | -Proust: “Okay, tell me more about This Piggy and her impact in the world. Sam: “Well, she is not just a random puppet, she is part of the Muppet Show and her name is Miss Piggy. By the way, did you know that she became the cover of ELLE magazine not long ago?” |
Proust realized that she answered his question asking him another question. Certainly, he knows about the magazine like everyone else but he doesn’t want to embarrass himself once again. Proust notices his manager is watching them and he is afraid to lose his job. | -Proust: “No! I haven’t heard about it. Is it some teenager magazine? Because I’m too busy for that.” -Sam: ”Mmm, Okay. Have you ever watched Jimmy Kimmel live? She has been there too! She showed up there with her muppet boyfriend Kermit.” (Sam after waiting few seconds) “I bet he is right here somewhere, if we just could see it! Actually, Jim Henson said that Kermit is his favorite...” -Proust: “Okay, okay that is enough!” |
Proust is leading the group giving his back to them. Then, the camera zooms in on Daniel’s face as soon as the group gets closer to the wing reserved to the video recording equipment since he likes to do filmmaking as well. Sam completely gets in shock for what Proust mentioned about the Donkey Kong game. Daniels agrees with Sam by giving his point to Proust. | -Proust: “Anyway! let's keep going and stop interrupting me, there’s no need. I'm the one working here and I have a time schedule! Arguing with you is really annoying, how dare you to tell me that I didn't study for my work! Even on video games topics I know more than you! I was a videogamer myself back in the days, I remember playing Donkey Kong as soon as it was released in 1978 on my Atari, to the point that my hands blistered!” ( irritated tone). -Sam: "But... Mr. Proust... how it is possible that you played Donkey Kong on your console in 1978?! First of all, Donkey Kong was released in 1981 and only for barcade rooms! It became available for Atari 2600 in 1983,I believe. Am I right Daniels?" -Daniels laughing shamelessly replies: "Yes! Proust, Donkey Kong for that console was released in 1983. Um, maybe you are getting confused after all these years away from the gaming world."
|
Proust is feeling offended and outraged so he dares Sam to explain how it would be possible to improve the museum. He is about to lose self control but someway he is still managing to finish the tour in a professional way. Camera is taking a wide shot of the group from behind and capture the long hallway with all the equipment exposed on both sides. | -Proust: "I'm not that old!! As I said, I'm a busy person and I just got mistaken recalling the year. And you young lady have a big mouth! But just talking is not enough, after all this talking I would like to listen some facts about how can you improve this place...admitting that you have some actual good ideas and not just criticism! (Sarcastic tone). (A silent space takes place as Sam thinks about his question) -Proust: “Okay folks, this is the last wing of the museum and you can admire all these amazing history pieces." |
Sam very calmly accepts the "challenge" and explains Proust all her thoughts and ideas. The scene is captured by a single camera technique from a medium distance shot. | -Sam: “I was thinking about the question you asked me before Mr. Proust!...and... Very simply, I’d say that since the museum is located in an area where it has a huge historical background about cinematography, I think its management crew can get in touch with some Hulu or Netflix producers, for instance. They can ask to film a documentary about how important the Behind the Screen Exhibition is in the industry with the purpose of approaching a wider range of young audience that is already familiar with the two streaming giants. In second stand, it could be possible to include in those documentaries the figure of Jim Henson and how he altered the film industry back then and how his influence is still visible now days. All this would introduce new potential visitors to his existing exhibition.. Last but not least, I think its social media platforms should be updated to time. Last week, for example, I was taking a look to the museum’s website and I went in to every single social media. And I was very impressed on how the museum doesn’t have the most popular apps used nowadays like Snapchat, and for the most part other social medias they don’t really show an interesting profile for the museum. How can this museum be engaging for the audience if it doesn't portray an attractive image? 3f23f23f223f |
As she is speaking, from the background we can see one of the managers of the museum listening to their conversation. | Funny background music as the manager listens to their conversation: https://youtu.be/BXeq713R444 |
(The camera is taking a wide shot). Meanwhile, Jack and Daniels are wandering around, getting a closer look at the items from the room as they are chattering. We can see other visitors as well in the background. | Crowd noise sound effect: Jack: “I think we have everything that we need for our research paper. Our teacher won’t notice all the errors that this wacky tour guide gave us.” -Daniels: “Did you record everything?” -Jack: “Yes man, everything is recorded. The only thing left from the paper is the movie called Great Train Robbery, which is located in the main theater. (Conversation keeps going as the camera shoots another scene). |
Suddenly, the camera takes a close-up shot on Sam's phone, which is about to run out of internet data. Then, it switches to a close-up shot to Sam’s face followed by a long shot at eye level that includes Sam and Proust together. | Notification sound effect. -Sam talking to herself: “Oh, gosh! I'm already out of data for this month?! I shouldn’t have watched all those videos on youtube before coming here…” -Sam actually speaking: “Proust, do you know what the WiFi password is?” |
Camera zooms in to an extreme close-up shot to Proust eyes, which are getting full of wrath and frustration. He doesn’t recall the WiFi’s password and starts to blow up. | Dramatic boom sound effect pervading the scene: (10 sec.- 23 sec.) |
Camera through a tracking movement follow Proust that had just freaked out and without saying anything moved himself toward the exit leaving the three students on the spot. Instead of calling the elevator he chooses to get away through the stairs, but in the heat of the moment he doesn’t see a caution wet floor safety sign positioned not far away from there and trips down the stairs. | "The Drum" by the Siege starts playing in the background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ujRptOjoAQ -Jack: “What did you do Sam?!” -Sam: “I just asked for the museum’s WiFi, nothing else. He just disappeared!” -Daniels: “Maybe we should follow and apologize to him” At this point, a loud noise of something falling and cursing its hearible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_5cvNjCy24 -Sam: “Did you hear that guys?” |
Sam, Jack and Daniels get closer to the top of the stairs to see what happened and noticed that Proust is down on the floor. | Suspense music is playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN2Xs-MvxLw
|
The students get down the stairs where they see Proust waking up shocked but at least alive. He is good after all, but has just some difficulty to walk. Jack and Daniels help him out while Sam apologizes for the uncomfortable question. | -Jack and Daniels: “Let us help you Proust!” -Sam: ”Proust!!! Are you ok??? I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you angry!! I just needed the WiFi password to send an email for school, it was not my intention to tease you". |
Camera shoots a medium close-up shot to Proust face, in which it shows how he is abandoning his ego and admits that Sam is right about all the things that they have discussed previously about the museum. Proust just had an enlightenment and because he fell down the stairs, it made him be unable to work for a few days. The three friends listen to Proust’s words as an old man approaches to them. Proust asks Sam if she would like to take his place and work for the museum. Sam excitedly agrees and accepts his offer.
| -Proust: "No, don't worry is not your fault!! Actually you are right about everything!!! This place needs to be cleaned up and making it more interesting to the younger generation with modern topics, attractions and expositions. This is the karma that hit me, I apologize with you guys about my behavior. Jack and Daniels, you two are not really bad as I thought... and you Sam, you are brilliant!! I think I got injured and my ankle crooked. I’m pretty sure that for a few days, I will not be able to walk properly… -Manager: “What a show today…. First of all, Mr. Proust are you ok?? I saw you falling down the stairs, I was concerned about you but I’m glad that you are okay.” -Proust: “Yes I’m okay, thanks. I think I will not able to walk for a few days and I guess...some one has to replace me and I know who, if you don’t mind.” -Manager: “Sure! Who do you have in mind?” (Proust turns and looks at Sam) -Proust: “Sam... would you like to have a job as a tour guide? I know that you are in school but you can work part-time if you want. I think that you’re the indicated person to help this museum to be improved with your wonderful ideas. What do you think?” -Manager: “I agree with him! I've been listening to your conversations with Proust and I was amazed about all the knowledge that you have, young lady! I'd be glad to have you in the staff. Sam: "Oh my God I can’t believe it! I accept your offer. Thank you so much Mr. Proust!! I feel so honored!". -Proust: "I’m glad that you like this idea Sam, you will do a great job here, I'm sure!" |
After a few minutes, the group reaches the first floor near the area of movie theaters history and we see the group sitting in the front row watching The Great Train Robbery film smiling at it. | -Proust: "Okay guys thank you for your help. I can take it from here, I’m just going to take a seat here at the theater for a moment.” -Sam: “Don’t worry Mr. Proust. We still have time and we can stay here with you a little bit longer watching this movie if you don't mind." -Proust: “Really? That’s great!” Jack: “Yeah, we still need to watch it because it’s part of our research paper.” |
The camera slowly zooms out through a crane camera movement that shows the entire exposition and then a cut is being made of the last image of the clip in a wide long shot of all the characters watching the movie in the main theater of the museum. Camera fades out. | "I will always love you" by Whitney Houston is playing in the background as the camera fades out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JWTaaS7LdU |
