DRESS CODE POLICY

Students and Parents/Guardians,

In compliance with Duplin County Schools Board Policy 4316, the administrative team at North Duplin Junior-Senior High School would like to clarify the following rules about the dress code for the 2026-2027 school year.  

The DCS Code of Conduct states, “Appearance or clothing which is disruptive, provocative, obscene, or endangers the health or safety of the student or others is prohibited. Any clothing or accessories that depicts gang-related activities or displays words or images directly or indirectly advertising illegal or prohibited substances or which promote the use of these products or which are profane, obscene, or sexually suggestive are strictly prohibited. Appropriate attire adheres to the guidelines in the attached Dress Code.” MS pg. 72, HS pg. 78.

Students and their parents/guardians have the responsibility to be aware of the school’s specific dress code and to conform to these requirements. If a student or parent has any questions about whether specific attire or accessories are in compliance with this dress code, they should contact our Assistant Principal prior to wearing such attire to ensure compliance. On campus, the faculty, staff and administration have the responsibility to interpret and enforce this policy. School pride, morale, and image are influenced by the general appearance of students.

A student’s dress and appearance should not draw undue attention, nor should appearance detract from or interfere with learning in the classroom or the discipline within the school. Any attire that is disruptive to the educational process is prohibited. Dress code will be strictly enforced this school year Dress code checks will take place every morning please check daily before leaving home to ensure you are in dress code compliance. Students will be asked to change if out of dress code so it is recommended that a change of clothes from home is available for the students to limit interruptions for parents/guardians.

Shirts/Tops/Blouses

Clothing shall not be excessively revealing and must be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. Cleavage is not acceptable. Crop tops, halter tops, low-cut tops, tube tops, see-through, and backless clothing are not permitted. Muscle shirts, undershirts, off the shoulder tops, and spaghetti straps are also prohibited. Sleeveless shirts and tank top straps must be at least 2-inches in width at the shoulder. Shirts must be worn at all times, including during physical education class.

Hats/Headgear

Hats, beanies, wraps, and toboggans are prohibited indoors on campus. Sunglasses are acceptable outside but not on the head or face in the building. NO EXCEPTIONS. Sweatshirts with hoods should be off the head at all times, including outdoors, unless weather permits.

Shoes

No bedroom/house slippers.

Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Dresses

Pants/Shorts/Jeans must fit at the waist-size appropriate and not be excessively baggy or show undergarments. Cutouts or excessively ragged pants/clothing above the fingertip level are permitted with spandex shorts(knuckle length)/leggings underneath. No short shorts, miniskirts or short dresses. If a student stands with their arms at their sides with their fists closed, their shorts must be to the point at which their knuckles end; skirts and dresses to the point at which their fingertips end. Pajama pants are prohibited. Leggings/spandex pants must be reasonable and modest.

Consequences for violations of the school dress code:

1st Offense- Warning, parent contact, and documented in educators handbook. The student must acquire appropriate clothing before returning to class. If appropriate clothing cannot be acquired from home, the student will be placed in an ISS location until parent/guardian pickup or the end of the school day.

2nd Offense- Students will be assigned 1 day of ASD. If appropriate clothing cannot be acquired from home, the student will be placed in an ISS location until parent/guardian pickup or the end of the school day.

3rd Offense- Students will be assigned 2 days of ASD. If appropriate clothing cannot be acquired from home, the student will be placed in an ISS location until parent/guardian pickup or the end of the school day.

4th Offense- Students will be assigned 1 day of Out Of School Suspension.

5th Offense and more- Students will be assigned 2-10 days of Out Of School Suspension due to insubordination/multiple offenses.

POLICA DE VESTIMENTA

Alumnos y padres/tutores:

En conformidad con la Política 4316 de la Junta Escolar del Condado de Duplin, el equipo administrativo del Instituto North Duplin Junior-Senior High School desea aclarar las siguientes normas relativas al código de vestimenta para el curso escolar 2026-2027.  

El Código de Conducta de las Escuelas del Condado de Duplin (DCS) establece lo siguiente: «Queda prohibida cualquier apariencia o vestimenta que resulte perturbadora, provocativa u obscena, o que ponga en peligro la salud o la seguridad del alumno o de otras personas. Quedan estrictamente prohibidas las prendas o accesorios que representen actividades relacionadas con pandillas, que muestren palabras o imágenes que, directa o indirectamente, hagan publicidad de sustancias ilegales o prohibidas, que promuevan el uso de dichos productos o que sean blasfemas, obscenas o sexualmente sugerentes. La vestimenta adecuada debe ajustarse a las directrices del Código de Vestimenta adjunto». Escuela Secundaria, pág. 72; Instituto, pág. 78.

Los alumnos y sus padres o tutores tienen la responsabilidad de conocer el código de vestimenta específico del centro y de cumplir con estos requisitos. Si un alumno o un padre tiene alguna duda sobre si una prenda o un accesorio concreto cumple con este código de vestimenta, debe ponerse en contacto con nuestro subdirector antes de llevar dicha prenda para asegurarse de que cumple con las normas. En el recinto escolar, el profesorado, el personal y la dirección tienen la responsabilidad de interpretar y hacer cumplir esta política. El orgullo, la moral y la imagen de la escuela se ven influidos por la apariencia general de los alumnos.

La vestimenta y el aspecto de los alumnos no deben llamar la atención de forma indebida, ni deben restar valor o interferir en el aprendizaje en el aula o en la disciplina dentro del centro. Queda prohibida cualquier vestimenta que perturbe el proceso educativo. En NDJS se aplicará la siguiente política de código de vestimenta.

Camisas/Tops/Blusas

La ropa no debe ser excesivamente reveladora y debe cubrir la ropa interior en todo momento. No se permite el escote. No se permiten las camisetas cortas, las camisetas sin tirantes, las camisetas de escote pronunciado, las camisetas de tirante único, la ropa transparente ni la que deja la espalda al descubierto o el estomago. También están prohibidas las camisetas sin mangas, las camisetas interiores, las camisetas con hombros al aire y las de tirantes finos. Las camisetas sin mangas y los tirantes de las camisetas de tirantes deben tener un ancho mínimo de 2 pulgadas en el hombro. Se debe llevar camiseta en todo momento, incluso durante la clase de educación física.

Está prohibido llevar gorras, gorros, bufandas y gorros de lana en el interior del campus. Se permiten las gafas de sol en el exterior, pero no se pueden llevar en la cabeza ni cubriendo el rostro dentro de los edificios. SIN EXCEPCIONES. Las sudaderas con capucha deben llevarse sin la capucha puesta en todo momento, incluso al aire libre, a menos que el tiempo lo permita.

Calzado

No se permiten pantuflas o chanclas de casa.

Pantalones/chores/faldas/vestidos

Los pantalones, chores cortos y vaqueros deben ajustarse a la cintura, tener la talla adecuada y no ser excesivamente holgados/grandes ni dejar ver la ropa interior. Se permiten los pantalones o prendas con aberturas o excesivamente deshilachados por encima del nivel de las yemas de los dedos, siempre que se lleven debajo pantalones cortos de spandex (que lleguen hasta los nudillos) o leggings. No se permiten pantalones cortos muy cortos, minifaldas ni vestidos cortos. Si un alumno se pone de pie con los brazos a los lados y los puños cerrados, sus pantalones cortos deben llegar hasta el punto donde terminan los nudillos; las faldas y los vestidos, hasta el punto donde terminan las yemas de los dedos. Se prohíben los pantalones de pijama. Los leggings o pantalones de spandex deben ser recatados y de un largo razonable.

Consecuencias por incumplir el código de vestimenta del centro:

1.ª infracción: advertencia, contacto con los padres y registro en el manual del profesorado. El alumno deberá conseguir ropa adecuada antes de volver a clase. Si no puede conseguir ropa adecuada en casa, se le mantendrá en un lugar de ISS hasta que sus padres o tutores vengan a recogerlo o hasta el final de la jornada escolar.

2.ª infracción: se impondrá al alumno 1 día de ASD. Si no es posible traer ropa adecuada de casa, el alumno será trasladado a un lugar de ISS hasta que sus padres o tutores vengan a recogerlo o hasta el final de la jornada escolar.

3.ª infracción: se impondrá al alumno 2 días de ASD. Si no se puede traer ropa adecuada de casa, el alumno será trasladado a un lugar de ISS hasta que sus padres o tutores vengan a recogerlo o hasta el final de la jornada escolar.

4.ª infracción: se impondrá al alumno 1 día de suspensión fuera del centro.

5.ª infracción y siguientes: se impondrá al alumno entre 2 y 10 días de suspensión fuera del centro por insubordinación o infracciones múltiples.
