New Safety Procedure Put In Place to Protect Students and Staff

Parents Need to Read This Change In Practice

Bryan Vaughn

This school year, we’re beginning a new regulation governing visits to schools for meals with students.

Parents, guardians, grandparents and other relatives of students may ONLY come to schools to have meals with students on days designated by the principal.

We’re beginning this new regulation for a number of reasons.

Our safety audits of our schools and offices during the 2017-18 school year revealed one common problem – administrators could not properly supervise the large number of adults who wanted to come to school to have meals with their students.

The result . . . too often adults were in the school unsupervised – and sometimes these adults would go to areas other than the cafeteria.

And even when the adults were in the cafeteria, we often did not have administrators in place to properly monitor them.

Another area of concern for us is that these adults did not have the kind of background screenings we require for ALL our employees and for EVERYONE who volunteers in our schools.

For these reasons, beginning with the 2018-19 school year, individuals may come to school for meals with their students ONLY on days designated by the principal.

Thank you for working with us to make our schools safer for all our students and staff.
