Resolutions for Bus Incidents |
Responses and Levels of School Bus Behavior Violations Guidelines – Guidelines suggested by the SPPS Transportation Department (2018)
Transportation Department (Bus) Safety Class is an alternative to school bus suspension but may also be used along with a bus suspension. The Bus Safety Class is an in-depth educational class on the safety rules of riding the school bus. The class requires both student and parent/guardian to attend. There is a limit of two classes per school year. Remember that you may use either (A) Bus Safety Class; (B) Bus Suspension; or (A & B) both.
- Register student for Transportation Department Safety Class
- The Saturday School Bus Safety Class is a resolution option. Use the School Bus Safety Class in addition to another resolution(s).
- You can register a student in the class up until Friday at noon, the day before the Saturday class. After 12:00 noon, you must select the class date for the following week.
- With the School Bus Safety Class resolution attached to the student, a Bus Safety Class letter can be printed in the Behavior Letter Wizard. Send letters home by mail or with the student.
- If a student does not attend an assigned class, assign another class by attaching another resolution to the original event. Do not create another event.
- To run a report to determine students who are or have been registered for the School Bus Safety Class, use Ad Hoc Reporting.
- Bus Suspension
- To create a bus suspension letter behavior managers must attach the Bus Suspension resolution to the incident/event.
- The most accurate event type should be used.
- No longer must users only select the Disruptive Behavior To/From School.
- Note, occasionally letters do not print. The most common issue is that the student doesn’t have a guardian relationship in Campus. Both the “Guardian” or “Mailing” checkbox selected on the Relationships tab. These must be selected in order for letters to generate.
- When students are suspended from the bus for more than 10 days use the new field under Custom Data Elements to enter the date on which the student may again ride the bus.
- Use “Resolution Start Date” and “Resolution End Date” that reflect the bus suspension dates.
- Bus Suspension Return Date Field: Use this field for indicating the first date on which the student may again ride their bus after a bus suspension. The “Bus Suspension Return Date” then should be the next school day after the “Resolution End Date”.
- To create a bus suspension letter create a completed incident using the “Bus Suspension” resolution. Then, follow these directions:
