Assembly Notes

Using the blue worsted weight, a variety of shades and textures of green yarn, and the textured brown, use hdc tapestry crochet to work the rows of the mat. Vary the number of stitches used for the brown to make the ground “bumpy.” Green yarn should be used for about 2 or 3 rows to make the stems. Depending on the weight of the green yarn, you may have to use sc or hdc to keep the height of each row similar. Reverse sc around side and bottom edges, switch to “Over and Under” border along top.

Sew flower appliques along the mat where the blue and green yarns meet. Sew on additional leaf appliques, as well as insect, flower, and leaf-shaped buttons.
