What types of eBikes do you offer?
We offer a variety of eBikes including Leisure eBikes, City eBikes, and Bolt X Folding eBikes. We have recently added an eTrike to our fleet. Each model is available for 3-hour or full-day rentals. Most of our rental fleet consists of Fat Tire eBikes for a smooth and comfortable ride. For a more traditional, slim tire experience, consider renting our City eBike models.
What is included with my rental?
Each rental includes:
- A premium eBike rental
- A premium helmet by FreeTown
- A bike lock at no additional charge
- A training session using the eBike and a briefing on rules and regulations
- A detailed trail map and access to other points of interest via our website
What’s with the security deposit?
At BigSky eBikes, a refundable security deposit of $500 is added to all eBike rental reservations. This deposit is authorized at the time of booking. The security deposit serves as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and proper use of our eBikes and equipment. In the event of significant damage or theft, the deposit will be used to cover the costs of repair or replacement. Otherwise, the full amount will be released upon the safe return of the eBike and equipment in their original condition. This policy helps us maintain the quality of our rental fleet while providing peace of mind to our guests.
A word on our damage waiver…
Please note that a $10 damage waiver is recommended for each eBike rental. While optional, this fee will be added to reservations we handle and may also be added by guests at check out through our website - please watch for this optional coverage and consider including it. Damage waivers protect against costs associated with damage including broken spokes, damaged displays, saddle splits, scratches/dents etc.
Where can I pick up and return the eBike?
In all seasons, our business operates in a delivery model most evenings and weekends, including long weekends. With prior arrangement, we will meet you at Pinafore Park in St. Thomas or near Little Beach in Port Stanley. Watch for our black or gray Jeep Wrangler and trailer towing your premium eBikes. Typically, our preference is to deliver our eBikes and training inside beautiful Pinafore Park in St. Thomas, behind the bandshell, so you may enjoy the paved paths, practice unhurried and leisurely ride around the picturesque Lake Margaret, before venturing out further. Please note that there may be a delivery charge for other delivery locations. Please call/text to make arrangements and confirm availability and details.

- Late returns are subject to a fee of $25 per hour per eBike as this may negatively impact other reservations
How far can I travel on one of your eBikes and can I extend the battery range?
Our eBikes come with long-range batteries capable of up to 60 to 80 km per charge, depending on the level of pedal assist, weight on the bike, and model. These are included in your bike rental. For extended travel, additional secondary batteries are available for $25, increasing the range up to 150 km for certain models.
What is the minimum age requirement for riding one of your eBikes?
You must be 18 years of age or older to make a reservation with us. Ontario law does permit youth 16 years or older on eBikes, but at BigSky eBike Rentals, a responsible adult (18 or older) must also be joining the riding group.
Am I required to sign a waiver?
Yes, upon delivery of your eBike rental, you will be required to sign a liability waiver and do so in person. This waiver ensures that you understand and accept the terms and conditions of the rental, including the risks associated with riding an eBike. It also confirms that you agree not to loan the eBike to anyone else during your rental period, including any minors. Please have a valid ID (driver’s license, passport) ready at the time of delivery for verification purposes. We will be taking a picture of this ID while you are in rental agreement with us.
Can someone else ride the eBike I rented?
No, the rented eBike is for your exclusive use only. Lending or renting it to another person is not permitted and violates the rental agreement.
What happens if the eBike gets damaged or stolen?
You are responsible for returning the eBike in the same condition as when rented. You may choose to purchase optional Damage Fee Waivers for each eBike for $10/bike. This waiver covers minor accidental damages (e.g. scratches, broken spokes, split seat/saddle, punctured tire) but does not cover bike theft or significant damage to the frame or motor wherein the bike would need to be replaced. If the bike is stolen or significantly damaged, it will result in a forfeit of the security deposit, and the replacement cost of the eBike will be required.
Do I need to wear a helmet?
Yes, helmets are mandatory and provided free of charge with every rental. These are premium helmets by FreeTown and are easily adjusted for comfort and coolness.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 24 hours before the scheduled rental will receive a full refund. Please contact us for cancellations and we will try to work with you on a solution. We understand that things happen.
What is your policy for rainy days?
Our rental service operates rain or shine. However, if there are severe weather conditions, we may offer rescheduling or refunds without penalty. Light rain does not qualify for rescheduling, in fact it may add to the fun experience and memory of the day! Please contact us for further assistance.
What should I do if I finish early or can't find the return location?
First, let’s keep you safe. Contact us so we may assist. If you finish early or cannot locate the return truck/trailer, please contact us directly at 519-852-0310 to make arrangements. Never leave the eBike unsecured or unsupervised.
Do you offer guided tours?
Currently, we do not formally offer guided tours, but we please call us to discuss your interests and needs. We certainly always recommend popular routes and attractions in the area. QR codes and suggestions for cool things to check out on your ride may be found on our website. Please share interesting finds from your ride with us so we can let others know!
How fast do the eBikes go?
In accordance with Ontario Laws, our eBikes can reach speeds up to 32 km/h, depending on the model and terrain. Please note that using more pedal assistance, throttle and travelling at higher speeds may result in quicker battery use.
What should I bring with me?
We require a valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport) that we will take a photo of while you are in rental agreement with us. We recommend that you bring sunscreen, wear comfortable clothing, closed toe shoes and bring any personal items you might need, such as a camera, water or snacks. We have small backpacks for rental if you require them. These may be added at the time of your booking or at pick up/registration time. Please inquire.
Do you offer group discounts?
Yes, we may offer discounts for group bookings of 5 riders or more. Please contact us directly for more details at bigskyebikes@outlook.com or 519-852-0310 so we can work with you.
Can I rent an eBike for multiple days?
Yes, we offer multi-day rentals. Please contact us for special rates and availability. You must have an enclosed and secure area to store our eBikes overnight. Bike theft is unfortunately a very real problem in any area.
Are the eBikes suitable for all terrains?
Our eBikes are designed for a variety of terrains, including city streets and some off-road paths. Please inquire about the best model for your intended route.
How physically fit do I need to be?
Riding an eBike requires less physical exertion than a traditional bike. As long as you are in good physical health, can ride a regular bike, and have good balance and coordination, you should have no trouble enjoying our premium eBikes. During pick up of your eBike, a BigSky representative will assess your comfort and safety in handling the bike.
What happens if I get a flat tire?
If you experience a flat tire or any other mechanical issue, please contact us immediately for assistance. We will provide support to ensure you can continue your ride.
