Position Details
Estimated: $12 - $20 an hour, depending on experience
Hours per week:15-30
Position Description Summary
Responsible for assisting the head brewer in production of beer, developing new recipes, conducting product quality control, and keeping the brewery clean, functional, and up to Amicus’ standards at all times.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Brew beer according to brew schedule
- Keep facility clean and functional at all times including adhering to the cleaning and maintenance schedule to ensure the brewery, tanks, mill, counters, equipment, sinks, supplies, shelves, and storage areas comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards at all times
- Clean tanks, brewhouse, kegs, pins and other equipment
- Assist in inventory procedures for all raw materials, chemicals, beer, cooperage, small parts, packaging, supplies etc.
- Work with the head brewer to monitor the quality and temperature of fermenting beers on a daily basis. Monitor and record key data points throughout the brewing/fermentation process (e.g., gravity, pH, attenuation, dissolved oxygen, etc.), take level readings on the brite beer tanks, and monitor temperature and pressure build up in fermenters and brite beer tanks.
- Monitor quality, flavor, and carbonation of serving beers in the taproom, and throughout the brewing process
- Rack beer from the fermenters to brite tanks and ensure it is recorded properly.
- Label kegs and packaged products in accordance with federal and state law using appropriate keg collars, labels, and date codes.
- Troubleshoot and report equipment problems, violations, or substandard practices to the owner and head brewer
- Make recommendations to ownership and head brewer regarding maintenance, repair and upkeep of the facility and equipment
- Know and understand the fundamentals of our beers and willingness to learn.
- Complete all necessary side work for each shift as determined by head brewer
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Willingness to learn

- Ability to multitask and manage stressful circumstances associated with a fast-paced and evolving work environment
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, services ordering, and inventory control
- Familiarity and knowledge about the brewing process
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
- Good understanding of quality assurance, quality control, problem solving, and troubleshooting beer-related issues
Equipment, Machines and Software Used
This position requires the regular use of a keg washer, electrical heating equipment, digital and analog scales, grain mill, hydrometer, refractometer, various brewing and lab equipment that is subject to change over time and handling pressurized gasses.
Physical and Mental Requirements
This is a very physical job that requires long periods of time on your feet and the ability to move quickly and efficiently. The preferred candidate for this position will be comfortable performing repetitive movements and have the mobility to push, pull, crouch, kneel, crawl, etc.
A person in this position must have the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. They must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs and move about 160 lbs.
Being an assistant brewer/cellar person requires high mental and visual attention for planning work flows, as well as assessing the size, shape, and physical qualities of products. An extremely close visual attention to detail and ability to make delicate adjustments to control high speed operations is important.
Environmental Conditions
While performing the duties of this position, the worker is exposed to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat, potential for physical injury, exposure to hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, chemicals, and moving machinery.
