Owner and Installation Manual

Congratulations on purchasing your Charge Safe. Our adapter will conveniently transition your charger's connection to a convenient magnetic type connection effortlessly and safely.

HOW TO CONNECT THE MAGNETIC CHARGER ADAPTER TO YOUR CHARGER:

  1. Check your charger connection to determine if you want to use a converter or hardwire it.
  1. The Charge Safe comes with an universal connector.  If your charger is already equipped with one, you’ll just need to plug our unit into your charger.  Battery Tenders and other brands come with a universal connector shown below:

  1. If your charger does not come with a universal connector, you have two options: 1) purchase a converter from your charger manufacturer, or 2) replace the Charge Safe SAE universal connector with the trickle charger connector using the following method. Your trickle charger should have come with a ring terminal and alligator type connector to the battery. When you install Charge Safe, you will no longer need these wiring connections from your trickle charger. Cut the pigtails from the charger side and the universal connector from Charge Safe. Using butt connectors or other proper methods, securely connect the wires. Use electrical tape or heat shrink to protect the wires.

  1. To hardwire the Charge Safe to your charger cable, Cut the pigtails from the charger side and the universal connector from Charge Safe. (Figure 1) Using butt connector or other proper method, securely connecting wires (not supplied with purchase). Use electrical tape or heat shrink to protect the wire and prevent it from disconnecting.

HOW TO INSTALL THE  MAGNETIC CHARGER ADAPTER RECEIVER TO THE BATTERY AND THE VEHICLE:

The MCA receiver comes with terminal rings already installed to connect to the battery post terminals.  Identify the permanent location of the MCA receiver and plan your wire routing.  MCA receiver has a bracket attached to the rear which can be attached to mounting location via double sided tape supplied or screws.  Bracket has break away tabs to help with different mounting configurations (Figure 2). The bracket tab can be bent by applying heat at the seam with a lighter or a heat gun (Figure 3). You may have to get creative with custom mount configuration to fit your vehicle mounting location.  Use the best method possible or have a professional shop custom mount the receiver as desired.

Note: you may need to cut the wires and reconnect to route through small holes or gaps. Also may need to lengthen wire with the same 16 gauge or thicker for long distance routing.

HOW TO USE MAGNETIC CHARGER ADAPTER

Once the MCA receiver side is installed and mounted securely.  Connect the charger side of the MCA to your trickle charger via SAE universal connection, your charger manufacturer SAE universal adapter converter, or hardwire connection.

You are ready to start using the MCA to trickle charge your battery.  Bring the MCA charger that is connected to your trickle charger close to the MCA receiver.  If the polarity is correct, they will attract each other and make a proper connection.  If you have the polarity in the wrong direction, they will try to repel as you try to connect. Flip it 180 degrees and it should connect properly.  One of the advantages of the MCA adapter is being able to connect by feel due to its magnetic attraction.  Once a good connection is made, the green LED will be lit.  Once lit, check your trickle charger for proper charging sequence and confirm charging status.

NOTE: Refer to your charger manufacturer's safety warnings and charging instructions

Periodic Maintenance:

MCA connector is designed to withstand outdoor conditions when installed.  Protective cover also will help to minimize water and debris collection on the connectors.  Magnets and contactors can collect debris that could make connections unreliable.  Periodic visual inspection and cleaning might be necessary.

  1. Inspect contact surfaces for debris or build up.  Clear debris off the magnet with a paper towel. Caution: metal filings can be sharp so don’t use your bare fingers to clean surface
  2. Use an eraser or contact cleaner to clean connectors. Applying light WD-40 can also help to prevent oxidation and build up.
  3. Use cover provided on both sides when not in use to prevent from attracting debris.
