NoHands Interview - (~?? min)
- Hi Nohandsgamer!
- Thanks so much for joining us. For those of our listeners who aren’t familiar with you, how did you get into Hearthstone?
- We need to ask the big question - how do you play without using your hands? How does this change your deck selection and general play experience?
- What is your favorite: Class, card, deck, format?
- When did you decide to pursue Hearthstone on a competitive level?
- You're well known as an innovative and effective deck builder. What was the first deck you developed that you felt was ahead of a format? What prompted you to work on this skill?
- Have you always been good at finding off meta decks and making them work? Are there any other decks that you created that became popular, either with you piloting or someone else, that we may not know about?
- What is your favorite class to play/build decks for?
- Are you more of a Johnny or a Spike?
- What are your opinions on the current meta? Are there any changes you would like to see made?
- Do you prefer the current philosophy of changing cards more frequently or was there a time in the past that you liked more?
- Bloodyface was on our podcast last week and spoke very highly of your deck building and play. Are you actively trying to qualify for Grandmasters?
- In addition to being known for your deckbuilding, you are well known for your stable mental state while playing - I don't think I've ever seen you tilt. What's your approach here? Let's take a second here to talk about it.
- You'd mentioned to us before the show that you're a big fan of Jared Tendler and we are too! How do you put those lessons into practice?
- Do you play any other games?
- Do you have any suggestions or insights for how developers can make games more accessible?
- Favorite food? Prefer cats or dogs? Favorite girl scout cookie?
- Any streams that you watch regularly, HS or otherwise?
- Do you have any advice for anyone looking to get into streaming or competing?

Qualifiers
- The most popular lineup is no longer the best one - we're seeing some alternate strategies. But still, you should be prepared for Tempo DH, Gala Rogue, and Enrage Warrior. In particular, Warrior is still the nuts and you need to have a plan or a ban for it. This lineup still won a qual.
- You can play Face Hunter. It's good. Just ban warrior. One of the best lineups and it won 2 quals. You can play Zoo instead of Face Hunter if you'd rather and it also won 2 quals.
- The lineup with the most wins actually includes non-secret Galakrond Rogue - and sometimes there are Khartut Defenders!!
- Anti-Warrior lineups are starting to emerge - there's a Pure Paladin, Galakrond Priest, Control Warrior lineup (!!!), a Highlander Priest, Control Shaman, Control Warrior lineup (!!!!!), and a Highlander Hunter, Highlander Rogue, Rez Priest lineup.
- The best deck? Enrage warrior. The second best? Galakrond priest (to counter warrior).
- You probably shouldn't play druid. Big druid and spell druid both underperformed (big druid moreso). Most priest lists didn't do all that well either, though Gala and Highlander are exceptions.
The ladder
- Warrior is the best deck and you should play it. At Legend, it is the only tier 1 deck per VS.
- Hunter is probably the second best class, with THREE good decks - HL, Dragon, and Face hunter.
- DH is good too. VS has a build that includes both Sidekick AND Priestess - many builds are choosing one or the other.
- Rogue is still in flux and has definitely dropped as the meta has gotten more aggressive. Weird builds out there. Some people cutting secrets, while Hunterace is cutting Pharaoh Cat and Miscreant (!!!).
- Priest is not looking good in the numbers though people still like playing it - in large part due to the warrior matchup.

Decksplanations - Deckbuilding 101
We have the master on - let's talk about the basic structure for building a deck.
STEP 1. THE IDEA
- How do you decide when to pursue an idea or a specific card?
- When you're reviewing cards ahead of a set release, is there any particular thing that jumps out at you or that you regularly look for?
- What's your process for building a first draft of a deck?
STEP 2. EXPERIMENTATION
- Alright, time to take the experiment out on the ladder - how do you tell from here if something is working or even worth pursuing?
- How and when do you decide to swap cards out or in? What are you looking for?
STEP 3. REFINEMENT AND PRACTICE
- When do you know the core of the deck has stabilized?
- Without stats out there for a brand new deck, how do you figure out your optimal plays and mulligans in particular?
STEP 4. META SHIFT
- When the deck works and becomes a part of the meta, how does that change your experience? Does it become obvious quickly that people know how to play around your strategy?
- How can you tell if a deck is still worth pursuing in the future but if the concept isn't working right now due to meta shifts?
