Senior Software Engineer @ Social Venture (remote ok)

Mon Ami builds modern software for sectors traditionally overlooked by technology companies. Our SaaS products are currently used by government, social service, and healthcare providers to deliver essential services for older adults and other vulnerable populations.

Here are some of the ways our software is used:

• During COVID, San Francisco has used Mon Ami to implement an emergency coordination system that provides seniors with grocery deliveries, prescription pickups, and weekly check-ins.
• Agencies in Pennsylvania used Mon Ami to implement a telephone reassurance service so that isolated seniors could get regular check-in calls from volunteers

We are a women-founded, mission-driven startup working to achieve breakthrough results in a vitally important and growing market.

The position

We’re expanding the team and are hiring a senior developer. Our existing team of four developers is a cohesive, creative, and opinionated group who have accomplished great things and are constantly looking to learn and teach more of the craft of software development.

You will take on leadership for building out large swaths of our product --  working with our product managers, founders, design team and other developers to continuously release great product that solves our customers’ biggest challenges.  

You...

• have four or more years experience building production-quality code
• take pride in the craftsmanship of your work
• are conversant in multiple front-end and back-end frameworks, including at least one MVC framework
• learn quickly and are anxious to support learning among peers and more junior developers
• work effectively and collaboratively with non-technical folk, including product managers, designers, operations people, and customers

Desired skills

• Full-stack Web development experience:

• A HTML/ES6 front-end framework or two: Stimulus, React, Vue (we use Stimulus and React)
• A modern MVC framework or two: Django, Laravel, Rails, etc. (we use Ruby on Rails)

• Accomplished with one or more SQL databases (we use Postgres)
• Passion for engineering excellence and facile with:

• A comprehensive test framework (we use RSpec / Capybara)
• Git workflows
• Docker

• Experience with AWS, including ECS, IAM, and Copilot are a plus

A day in the life at Mon Ami

• Good morning! Check in with the team and everyone in the company (10 of us currently)
• Share in a brainstorm on how to support needs of a new kind of customer.
• Work with Ben, the most awesome product manager, to finalize details of a feature in our next generation product, perhaps a UX to manage SMS communication with client
• Write code, write tests(!)
• Pair program with Catalin (based in Europe) to do something that is new to you -- perhaps configure an OAuth provider
• Share code with the team and receive constructive code review
• Tidy up the code and show Ben and the company the amazing thing you made

etc.

This position can be located anywhere, but our current staff are in California and Europe, so there is a requirement to overlap 3-4 daily hours with California and optimally other hours with Europe or California. Some benefits are available only to US residents.
