Best Practices for Using SchoolMessenger

Help Fight Message Fatigue

Parents will tune out messages or even request their contact information to be blocked if they receive too many messages. Try to limit your phone calls for more urgent matters. Avoid sending the same message multiple times. Strategically send your message close enough to the event that parents will remember.

Before you spout, write it out

Even broadcasting professionals use a script before they read/record information. Using the scratch pad not only helps prevent “umms” and “uhhs,” but it also makes creating an email with the same information as quick as one click. Remember to leave out personal preferences & greetings.

Testing 1-2-3

If there is important information you need to convey, such as dates, times or location of events, make sure you repeat that information in your broadcast.

Let them know who you are

Write the name of your school in the subject box when creating your message. When sending a text message, use your school initials. This will help parents with multiple children distinguish which school the message is coming from.

60 seconds of fame

Messages longer than 40 seconds are longer than the attention span of most adults. Remember to use your voice as much as possible and to refer your audience to a website with more information.

Know Your Audience

Be aware of who you are sending a message to before you send it.

  • Contacts = Students
  • Guardians = Parents
