  2. Motion by R. Straight, second by R. Kirchberger to approve minutes of the August 14, 2018 board meeting.  The motion carried with an abstention by J. Roncoroni.
  3. Donation - F. Goger acknowledged this donation and reported that Mr. Ronald Unkert, Vice President of the Tewksbury - Lebanon Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 386 of Oldwick, NJ, was unable to attend the meeting this evening.
  1. Motion by J. Roncoroni, second by R. Straight to approve the donation, of three trauma kits to Voorhees High School with a total estimated value of $2,800, from the Tewksbury - Lebanon Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 386 of Oldwick, NJ.  The motion carried unanimously.
  1. Recognition of Amy Mullay, World Languages Teacher, honored as 2018-2019 Hunterdon County Teacher of the Year
  2. Superintendent’s Report - J. Bender reviewed the following:
  1. Report on Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying (HIB)
  2. Motion by J. Roncoroni, second by R. Straight to affirm the Superintendent’s determinations on the August 14, 2018 board meeting - No incidents were reported.  The motion carried unanimously.  
  3. Review of the School Bus Emergency Evacuation Drill Reports
  4. Back to school nights were well attended at both schools.
  5. Homecoming football games at both schools are scheduled on October 5, 2018.
  6. Athletic Directors held student interest meetings about Girls Golf and additional information will be reported at the next Board meeting.
  1. President’s Report - F. Goger reported the following:
  1. October 1 - 5, 2018 - observe Week of Respect
  2. October 15 - 19, 2018 - observe Violence Awareness Week
  3. October 16, 2018 - board meeting - 7:00 p.m. - District Administration Office
  4. October 22 - 25, 2018 - New Jersey School Boards Association Annual Fall Workshop - Atlantic City, NJ
  5. Board member self evaluations - call for Board member questions or comments; there were no comments.

  1. Facilities, Finance & Transportation – R. Straight reported that the committee reviewed change orders and the status of capital projects.
  2. Curriculum, Instruction & Technology – R. Straight reported that the committee discussed the new grading system and reviewed school climate survey results.
  3. Community Relations / Student Affairs – J. Viotto reported that the Board has organized a team to participate in the upcoming Running of Lions 5K run / walk organized by the North Hunterdon Education Foundation.

  3. Opportunity for Public Comment - Two members of the public were present.
  1. Mary Obermair, of Annandale, Trustee of the North Hunterdon Education Foundation addressed the Board thanking them for their support and for their participation in the upcoming Running of the Lions 5K run / walk.
  1. Motion by R. Straight, second by H. Richards to approve new textbook purchases.  The motion carried unanimously.
  2. Motion by R. Straight, second by A. Masters to approve action items 17.1 - 19.16 (including hand carries if provided - none were provided).  The motion carried with  abstentions by C. Allen-Munley on action item 19.5 and 19.6.

  4. Authorize a six month student tuition agreement in the amount of $1,580 with Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth of Baltimore, MD for the 2018-2019 school year

  7. Allowance deduction - change order 002 in the amount of $6,954 - security enhancements at North Hunterdon High School and Voorhees High School - state project #3660-050-18-4000 (NHHS) and 3660-060-18-3000 (VHS) - contract amount unchanged
  8. Allowance deduction - change order 003 in the amount of $19,359.45 - security enhancements at North Hunterdon High School and Voorhees High School - state project #3660-050-18-4000 (NHHS) and 3660-060-18-3000 (VHS) - contract amount unchanged

  1. Motion by S. Crisologo, second by J. Viotto to adopt the following resolution as read by Board President, F. Goger.  The motion carried unanimously and the Board adjourned to executive session at approximately 7:20 p.m.  Note:  L. Approvato arrived during executive session, at approximately 7:45 p.m.  Resolution:  Whereas Section 7 of the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-12, authorizes a public body to exclude the public from that portion of a meeting at which the Board discusses topics falling within certain specified exceptions to the requirement for open public meetings, and Whereas the matters to be discussed fall within one or more of those exceptions, now therefore be it Resolved that the Board of Education of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District now adjourns from public session to executive session for the purpose of discussing the following:
  1. Personnel - recommendations for appointments, separations, changes in assignment and leaves of absence
  2. Pending and threatened litigation and matters falling within the attorney-client privilege
  3. Negotiations
  4. Executive session minutes June 19, 2018 and August 14, 2018
  1. Motion by R. Straight, second by R. Kirchberger to reconvene Public Session.  The motion carried unanimously and the Board reconvened public session at approximately 8:20 p.m.
  2. New Business - None
  3. Motion by R. Straight, second by J. Viotto to approve action items 23.1 - 23.3 including items presented on P09202018-hand carry, and with the following amendments:  amend the start date from 10/1/18 to 9/24/18 on action item 3.1.5 on agenda P09202018, and on P09202018-hand carry, the addition of the separation of employee 3865 effective on 9/21/18.  Upon a roll call vote, the motion carried, with the following abstentions:  T. Roll, and J. Viotto on action item 23.2, and J. Roncoroni on action item 23.3.

  1. Motion by R. Straight, second by S. Crisologo to approve an employment contract for Jeffrey Bender for the term beginning 7/1/2019 through 6/30/2022 pending approval of the Hunterdon County Superintendent of Schools and pending determination of the salary.  Upon a roll call vote, the motion carried, unanimously.  
  2. Motion by R. Straight, second by J. Roncoroni to adjourn.  The motion carried, unanimously and the Board adjourned at approximately 8:25 p.m.
