The Tony Everard Trophy was created in 2013 to celebrate the man who had given John the essential ‘leg-up’ from his original Mirror dinghy, built by his father Dennis.
Tony, then Chairman of Everards and a member of RSC, heard at the bar from Peter Parkinson, training manager at RSC that John and his crew Rob Wilson were the ones most needing this assistance.
He arranged the supply of the first ‘Rutland Challenge’ 420 and the 470 to follow.
Tony continued to support the Tiger after John’s death and his Nephew, Richard, the current Chairman of Everards has maintained the tradition, ensuring a continuing supply of Tiger beer and Keeper glasses for every prizegiving for 25 years.
The Pump trophy is awarded on the Saturday to the lowest score over the handicap races without a discard.
