G E N E R A L   P T A   M E E T I N G

MARCH 24, 2021

6:30 PM

 

I.                 Christine Jordan, Camp Summer Friendship at PS154

-          Camp will be on this summer

-          Awaiting safety guidelines

-          Several teachers from school and after-school will be joining camp

o   Mr. Casey will do theater

o   Ms. Donato will do movement

-          Focus on SEL

-          No trips to Prospect Park this year because it raises operating costs and exposes campers to outsiders

-          Have to book full weeks; no daily drop-ins

 

II.        Debby Wattenbarger, Parent Coordinator

-          Jason (principal) not able to come to meeting today

-         The school is excited to have another opt-in window – open now till April 7

-          Debby has no answers about specific changes related to the opt-in until they have final numbers

o   Trust them that they will do the best they can to keep things as consistent as they can

o   If you want your child to be in-person, opt in now

-          Expect closures

-          There will be a meeting before new students come in where information will be shared, but there will be no information available before the decision has to be made

-          Debby will send a link to FAQ about hybrid opt-in

-         Parent question: Is it possible that students already in the hybrid program will be in school less after the new opt-in period? Answer: Yes

-         Parent question: Do you have any updates about when families will hear about middle school admissions? Answer: Nothing yet

 

III.        Jaymie Kelly, PTA President

-          Picture Day is coming up

o   Hybrid students – will have photos taken on their in-school day

o   Remote students – if you want a school photo taken in the yard, reach out to Jaymie for an appointment

o   April 21 PTA meeting is the elections meeting for next year – please think about running for executive board

 

IV.        Blair Kitchen, PTA/Treasurer

-          Read-a-Thon exceeded its budget – we brought in almost $16,000

-          Virtual STEAM fair brought in almost $2700

-          $20,000 bridge loan was made to after-school

-          We are currently in the black

 

V.         Sara Murphy, Chair of Fundraising

-          Spring Society of Scavengers – neighborhood scavenger hunt starts this weekend

-          $30 per ticket

-          Now is a good time to donate to the annual fund!
