This gown is for a 2 lb. preemie. It can be used with the opening in the front for a daygown.
Or open down the back for a burial garment. It is a simple pattern. I used Patons Beehive Baby Sport
yarn. It is very soft and perfect for this sort of garment.
Please check with the hospital you donate to, to see if they dress the preemies. Most do not.
One of the ones I donate to only uses the daygowns for the holidays to dress the babies up for their parents.
Done with the opening in the back this would make a nice burial gown for boys since it is just simple
double-crochet, not at all frilly.
Size F hook
Baby or sport weight yarn.
Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook and next 2 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 4 chs, 3 dc in next ch,
dc in next 8 chs,3 dc in next ch, dc in next 4 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in last 4 chs. ch 2, turn.
rows 2-5: dc in each dc across putting 3dc in center dc of 3dc group below. Ch 2, turn.
row 6: dc across to center of first 3dc group, ch 4, skip across to next 3dc, dc in center st and
each st across to center st of 3rd dc group, ch4, skip to last 3dc put dc in center of 3dc group
and across to end. ch 2, turn.
row 7: dc in each dc and chain across. ch 2, turn.
rows 8: dc in each dc across. Ch 2, turn.
repeat row 8 until gown measures about 10" long. work one row of sc on last row.
Add sleeves if you like.
You can use ribbons or ties to close it.
You can also do buttons, just finish off like you would a sweater adding buttonholes where desired.
