I. Parent and Family Engagement Policy
A. List names and roles (teachers, administrators, parents, etc) of persons involved in
developing Parent and Family Engagement Policy.

B. Briefly describe the process your school used to:
1. select participants to develop the policy (school improvement team, parent/family
committee)
2. develop policy (1-2 pages max) (policy should reflect Components II through XII
taken from Parental Engagement Section 1116 of The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
3. implement policy
- The principal sent out Connect Ed. messages, Facebook, Parent Square message to the school community about the upcoming SIT meeting. The SIT was also emailed about the meeting date and time. This would allow all parents to be apart of our SIT meeting and provide input into the Family Engagement Policy. The plan was discussed and reviewed with all stakeholders. Input from stakeholders was documented into the plan. Changes were made and shared with the community for feedback.
II. Annual Information Meeting
A. Describe your plan to conduct an annual meeting to inform parents of their school’s
participation in Title I Part A. Include strategies to inform English Learner parents.
- Several meetings will be held throughout the year to discuss the school goals, achievement, and specific information regarding the Title I program here at Lake Wylie Elementary School. Parent meetings scheduled include Open House(August 25th). During Open House, teachers informed families of classroom goals. Curriculum Night will be held (September 21st). During Curriculum night, teachers will discuss grade level expectations, how to work with students at home in literacy/math, and provide resources for parents. We will have Math Night(March 21st). Students and parents will engage in math games and activities together. The activities will be based on what students are learning in school and grade level standards. We will have Spanish interpreters at all events. All event communication will be translated in English and Spanish.
III. Flexible meeting times
A. Describe your strategies to offer flexible times for parental and family engagement
opportunities and meetings.
- Parent Coffees are in-person(11:00AM) one day and the same information will be provided via zoom(1:00PM) the next day. Parent coffees will have a spanish interpreter. This allows working parents to attend the session via zoom to hear the same information. Also, our school wide events are in the evening to accommodate all families. We are also feeding families during the evening events to get more participation.
IV. Title I Part A Planning
A. What timeline and strategies will you use to involve parents and families in an organized,
ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I Part
A Program.
- Families will be involved in planning strategies through the SIT. The SIT will meet once a month in person to discuss Part A Program. Minutes will be emailed out within 24 hours and posted to the website for any parents to give feedback or suggestions. All parents are invited to come to the SIT meetings and give input as well.
V. Parent Information and Opportunities
A. Describe how you will provide parents and families with the following:
1. Timely information about Title I Part A Programs
- Weekly Email Blasts, posts on social media, Connect Ed messages and Parent SQuare
2. School performance profiles
- Assessment results of School Performance Profiles- School Website, Social Media, Curriculum Night, Principal Coffee
3. Assessment results of their child’s performance
- Assessment results of their child’s performance- Progress Reports, Parent-Teacher Conferences IEP/504 meetings(as needed), and Report Cards.
4. A description and explanation of the curriculum, assessment forms, and
proficiency levels and state standards. Include strategies to inform parents
with language barriers and/or disabilities
- We will use Curriculum night to explain the curriculum to parents. Teachers will also discuss the curriculum and assessments during Parent-Teacher conferences. Our goal is to have 100% participation for Parent-Teacher conferences. During the Principal Coffees, we will discuss proficiency levels and state standards. A recording of the Principal Coffee will be sent out as well, so all parents have access. We also created a parent one-page informational sheet to help parents know how to access information about curriculum and district/state assessments.
5. Opportunities for regular meetings to participate in decision making
- All parents are welcome to attend SIT meetings. Parents can also attend our PTSA board meetings where decisions are made about school.
6. Timely responses to suggestions and questions raised by parents
- We also have an open door policy at Lake Wylie. Parents can email, call, or come to the school. One of the school administrators, counselors, or facilitators will be willing to speak to any parent and answer their questions.
7. Reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in
child’s class.
- Parents are able to attend field trips, come eat lunch with their child, help with the School Book Fair, Beautification Campus Clean up Day, and Field Day.
VI. School-Family Compact
A. Discuss timeframe and strategies to present and explain compact to parents as it
relates to the child’s achievement. Include strategies to inform parents with
language barriers and/or disabilities
- The principal will discuss the school family compact at Curriculum Night. The compact was sent home for parents to review and sign. At Curriculum Night, the principal will explain the compact and the importance of each component. The compact was sent home in English and Spanish.
VII. Building Parent and Family Engagement Capacity
A. Briefly discuss how you will address the following:
1. Provide assistance to parents in understanding performance standards,
assessment, Title I, monitoring their child’s progress, and participating in
decisions relating to the education of their child
- At our Principal Coffees, the principal will work to help parents understand the performance standard assessments, Title I, and how to participate in decisions related to the education of their child. Teachers will discuss during Curriculum Night and Parent-Teacher conferences how to monitor their child’s progress. Teachers will provide feedback through progress reports and report cards as well. Teachers and administration are available to speak with parents about their child’s performance at anytime
2. Provide materials and training to help parents work with their children
(literacy training, computer skills, homework assistance/workshops, family
literacy nights, adult EL, GED etc.)
- During our principal coffee, we will offer ways that parents can support their child at home in literacy and math. We will also have community resources that will offer parents opportunities to learn: Leadership Martial Arts(bullying/after school activities), State Employees Credit Union(financial literacy), Crisis Ministries(effects of social media/human trafficking).
3. Educate teachers and other staff to work with parents
- Our facilitators work with the teachers on how to conduct Parent-Teacher Conferences, provide resources for parents, create homework as needed, and create weekly email blasts that inform parents of what students are learning each week.
4. Coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs/activities
- We have SAIL quarterly recognition ceremonies. Students are recognized each quarter for achievement in literacy/math and behavior. Parents are invited into the classroom to be a part of the quarterly recognition ceremonies and be actively engaged in learning what their child is learning each day. Curriculum Night(08/21) and Math Night(03/21) will also involve parents in learning the standards that students are expected to master.
5. Develop appropriate roles for community-based organizations and businesses
- We have multiple community partners coming out to help with our Principal Coffee.: Leadership Martial Arts(bullying/after school activities), State Employees Credit Union(financial literacy), Crisis Ministries(effects of social media/human trafficking).We also have faith-based community partners that support our school. Our faith-based partners support with Teacher Appreciation Week, Beginning Teacher support Program, Holiday Luncheon, Welcome Back Staff meetings, Student Lunch Buddy Program, Second Harvest Food Bank support, Student Holiday Support. Local dentists office support with school supplies and breakfast for teachers.
6. Conduct other activities as appropriate and feasible that is designed to help
parents become full partners in the education of their child
- Parents are all encouraged to to be involved in school activities: SAIL, Principal Coffee, Field Day, Field Trips, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Night, Math Night, PTSA meetings, SIT meetings, and Trunk or Treat. All parents are invited to events through Parent Square, Facebook. Connect Ed. and teacher’s weekly email blasts.
7. Ensure that information related to parent involvement is sent home in the
language used in the home
- All communication is sent home in English and Spanish. Written communication and social media communication is translated in two languages.
VIII. English Learners and Disabled Parents and Families
A. Provide full opportunities for the participation of English Learner parents or with disabilities
- We will have a Spanish Interpreter for all events. If a parent requests sign language interpretation, the principal will work with the district to provide the services. All parents will have opportunities to engage in the discussion and support the decision making process.
IX. Parent/Family Requests
A. Describe how you will provide reasonable support for activities requested by parent and
Families.
- We receive input from families during our SIT meetings, Principal Coffee informational sessions, and PTSA. We work with our administration and school teacher leaders to accommodate parent requests for activities.
X. Annual Evaluation
A. Discuss timeline and plan for involving parents and families in an annual evaluation of the
content and effectiveness of the parent and family engagement policy in improving the
academic quality of the schools.
- The principal will meet with the SIT team to review the effectiveness of the parent and family engagement policy. The principal will facilitate how parents can understand the document and review it. Parents will have an opportunity to make changes to improve the academic quality of the school.

A. Describe how your school addresses the following, only if practices are part of your

1. Involve parents/families in the development of training for teachers, principals and
other educators
2. Provide necessary literacy training
- We provide literacy training during Principal Coffee and Curriculum Night.
3. Pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with local parent and family
engagement activities, including transportation and child care cost
- We provide pizza during our Curriculum night and Math night to all families. Each family is fed before the event.
4. Train parents and families to enhance the engagement of other parents
- At each Principal Coffee, the principal has challenged parents to bring another parent with them at the next coffee. She has encouraged them to speak with one another and discuss what they learned at the Principal Coffee.
5. Arrange school meetings at a variety of times or conduct in-home
conferences for those unable to attend in school activities
- Our Principal Coffees are during lunch one a month at 11:30AM and then the following day at 1:00PM via zoom. This allows parents to attend in person or via zoom from home/work.
6. Adopt and implement model approaches to improving parent and family engagement
- Parents provide input at SIT, principal coffee sessions, and PTSA sessions for improving parents and family engagement. All ideas are taken back to administration to help improve engagement.
