INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP FAQ’s

                 

Q1: WHAT ARE THE NEW MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES?

There are 5 individual categories of membership. They are:-

SUBSCRIBER (new)

SUPPORTER (new)

SLIDER (new)

COMPETITOR (existing)

VOLUNTEER COACH (new)

PRO COACH (existing)

Each membership category has a range of benefits, some of which are listed below, and over the coming weeks/months we look forward to announcing a host of new benefits, discounts and offers to members as the offers come online…

Q2. CAN CHILDREN JOIN?

Yes children can join all membership categories except for coach which has minimum age requirement.

Q4: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VOLUNTEER AND PRO COACH?

A volunteer coach receives no pay for their coaching work. Any coaches receiving any form of payment for their services must register as a pro coach. Expense reimbursement is only permissible if accompanied by related receipts evidencing expenditure.

Q5: HOW DO I KNOW WHETHER TO REGISTER AS A SLIDER OR COMPETITOR?

In simple terms only register as a competitor if you are:-

  1. A FIS registered athlete in any discipline
  2. An alpine racer requiring a number from the BASS or BARTS alpine seeing systems.
  3. An alpine racer U12 (below the BASS and BARTS min age threshold for seed points), that needs to enter a major alpine events with a competitor number.

Q6. I AM ALREADY A MEMBER OF A CLUB, WHAT BENEFIT IS THERE IN JOINING SNOWSPORT SCOTAND A WELL?

If you are a member of an affiliated snowsports club then (because of its affiliation) you will already be eligible for benefits like 10% discount on mountain uplift tickets and 3rd part public liability insurance for snowsports. By joining Snowsport Scotland you will achieve 3 things:-

  1. You will receive a membership card entitling you to a selection of further discounts as negotiated by Snowsport Scotland (including travel, insurance, airport parking, and air ski transit)
  2. You will be eligible for peronal injury benefit insurance
  3. You will be donating a modest but helpful annual sum to the development of the sport in Scotland

Q7: I AM ALREADY REGISTERED WITH SNOWSPORT SCOTLAND AS A COMPETITOR OR COACH. WHAT NEW MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY HAVE I BEEN CONVERTED TO?

As someone with an existing memberhip registration and profile on the Snowsport Scotland database your record has been converted to one of the new membership categories according the the following rules:-

  • All individual associates have been converted to the SLIDER category
  • All registered competitors have been converted to the new COMPETITOR category
  • All registered leaders, coaches, and instructors have been converted to the PRO COACH category

This conversion has taken place for FREE and your membership will run for its full duration or longer in this transition.

Q8: I HAVE BEEN CONVERTED - WHEN DOES MY CURRENT MEMBERSHIP FALL DUE FOR RENEWAL?

If your data has been converted, your membership remains current and will become due for renewal on:-

SLIDERS: on the 12mth anniversary of your last renewal

COMPETITORS: on 30/09/2018**

COACHES: on 30/09/2018 **

** For anyone that has joined as a coach or competitor in the last 2 weeks, (since 18/1/18 when the new database system went live), their membership will run right through to 31/05/19.

Q9: WHEN I NEXT RENEW WHAT CHANGES WILL TAKE PLACE?

When you next renew your membership, the new pricing and membership years (as per website) will apply. In addition, many membership categories will see a saving in what they paid before, however for U12 competitors there will now be a fee of £10 to register (For those who are members of a registered SSS club, a 40% discount will apply, taking it to a net £6 for the year’s subscription).

ALL COACHES & COMPETITORS: If you are a coach or competitor, when you next renew, your membership will then run through to 31st May.

VOLUNTEER COACHES: If you are a coach who only performs unpaid volunteer work, at your next renewal you can opt to let your PRO-COACH membership lapse, and then take out a VOLUNTEER COACH membership (same benefits but lower price).

Q10: WHY DO CLUB MEMBERS GET DISCOUNTS ON SLIDER AND COMPETITOR PRODUCTS WHEN NON-CLUB MEMBERS DO NOT?

Clubs really support the sport. They offer huts on the mountain, a social context to mix with other snowsports enthusiasts, training opportunities, buses and transport opportunities, trips, training camps and overseas holidays. Snowsport Scotland really encourages all snosports enthusiasts to consider getting involved with one of the registered clubs. The more people that are involved in clubs, the stronger they can be and the more support they bring to the sport. Our club member discounts are there to incentivise people to consider joining a club. For a full list of SSS registered clubs visit www.snowsportscotland.org.

Q11: WHAT RETAIL DISCOUNTS ARE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS?

The team at Snowsport Scotland are constantly negotiating with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain discounts and benefits for our members. Over 2018 we will be looking to secure discounts from major suppliers on airport parking, airline ski baggage, travel insurance, holidays and a selection of Scottish retailers. Q12: HOW IS MY MEMBERSHIP DATA STORED, WHO HAS ACCESS TO IT AND HOW IS IT USED?

Under the general data protection rules effective from April 2018, data can only be used for the purpose for which it was first submitted.

Snowsport Scotland adheres to this policy and your data, stored on the which is stored on the Snowsport Scotland GO-MEMBERSHIP database will only be accessed by yourself and staff administrators at Snowsport Scotland.

It will only be used for communication with you (as determined in your own profile communication preferences) and for managing any entry you make into courses or competitions managed by Snowsport Scotland.
