In Fire on World 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Carmen Winant creates a space for the emergence of latent meaning(s) within carefully curated archives of historical imagery.  

Carmen Winant is an artist and writer based in Columbus, OH.

VCUarts Art Foundation and Graphic Design adjunct faculty member Emily Sara, recipient of the 2019 Excellence in Adjunct Research Exhibition, presents a new body of work addressing the complex societal and practical realities of persons battling long-term or chronic illness.

Liz Cohen’s 2012 video work Hydro Force draws suggestive parallels between two radically transformed bodies: that of her one-of-kind custom car the “Trabantimino” (which the artist painstakingly modified over a ten year period) and her own body, which appears in the video during the ninth month of Cohen’s first pregnancy.

VCUarts Qatar Design MFA - Kalimat

VCUarts Qatar Design MFA Student Exhibition

Kalimat is a radical design project in which students of the VCUarts Qatar Design MFA program undertook a collaborative reconsideration of the relationship between imagery and content. Inverting standard strategies for design, in which content often drives visualization, students began with a set of images and worked through strategies of collection, organization and presentation to map out the emergence of content. This exhibition is the outcome of the MFA in Design's Visual Communication course at VCUarts Qatar. Prior to traveling to Richmond, the exhibition was presented as part of the Contemporary Arts Qatar exhibition in Berlin.

B.A.S.E. - Showcase

Black Art Student Empowerment Annual Member Exhibition

Philadelphia: A Survey of Emerging Visions and Voices

Applied Curatorial Practices, Student Curated Exhibition

November 6–December 11

Reception: Nov. 11, 6–9pm

The culminating gesture of the Anderson’s annual Applied Curatorial Practices course, this student-curated group exhibition will offer a thematic survey of some of the most relevant, challenging and exciting work being made in Philadelphia today. Artists (TBA) will be selected through student research and a series of site and studio visits made during the Fall semester.
