Abraham Part 1: Looking to Heaven

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 talks of the difference between our earthly body and what will be our heavenly body. The present life is described as our ‘tent’ and the eternal life is described as our ‘home.’ The faith-driven life is an understanding that above all, faith drives a kind of life that knows the temporary life will end and eternal life will go on forever.

Read Hebrews 11:8. We don’t need to know the destination to start the journey. Abraham, without hesitation, obeyed the Lord even though “he did not know where he was going.”

• Why can it sometimes be hard for us to do what God has called us to do?
• What are ways you can assure you are obeying God’s call?

Read Hebrews 11:9,13. We live in the “present age” as if we belong to the “age to come.” Abraham was defined by who he was in God, not his “present age.”

• When you find our identity in Christ, how might you live differently than those that don’t?

Read Hebrews 11:14-16. We carry with us, deep down, a heavenly home-sickness. C.S. Lewis said, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”

• Do you ever sense a loneliness that you cannot explain? Talk more about this.
• How can you long for Heaven, yet still understand your purpose in the present age?
