It is the goal of the Kitchener  Minor Baseball Association to provide a fair, safe, secure and enjoyable environment for our players, parents, umpires and coaches.  We will be free of any illegal, offensive, demeaning or abusive behaviour, verbal or otherwise.   This code of conduct is applicable to players, coaches, umpires, parents and spectators with a section applicable to each.  Agreement to this code of conduct binds the signee to all sections applicable to them.

As a Kitchener Minor Baseball player I agree to abide by the following code of conduct:

  1. Encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials, and parents.
  2. Be a team player and support my teammates.
  3. Be on time and attend every practice and game that I can, and will notify my coaches if I cannot.
  4. Treat personal and team equipment
  5. with RESPECT at all times, ensuring that it be placed in the proper position in the dugout. Throwing of batting helmets and other equipment will result in immediate removal from the practice/game and further discipline action may be deemed necessary. Along with my teammates, I will leave the dugout neater than I found it.
  6. Work hard to improve my skills.
  7. Focus on my schooling and maintain good grades.
  8. Do my best to listen and learn from my coaches.
  9. Encourage my parents to be involved with my team in some capacity.
  10. Congratulate the other team after each game as a demonstration of sportsmanship.
  11. Refrain from using violence, unfriendly language, or insults to others.
  12. Be generous when I win and gracious when I lose.
  13. Obey the rules of the game and always work for the good of the team.
  14. Accept the decisions of the officials with grace and never challenge or question calls.  Refrain from challenging or questioning on-field calls by officials and/or managers and coaches.
  15. Conduct myself with honor and dignity.
  16. Applaud the efforts of my teammates and opponents.
  17. Refrain from the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco any other restricted product while representing Kitchener Minor Baseball.  This includes at games, practices and for the duration of team events including tournament weekends.  Violation of this rule will result in immediate removal from the team.

I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action levied by the Kitchener Minor Baseball Board of Directors or Code of Conduct Committee that could include but is not limited to the following:  

Coach Code of Conduct

The player/coach relationship is a privileged one. Coaches play a critical role in the personal as well as the athletic development of their players. They must understand and respect the inherent power imbalance that exists in this relationship and must be extremely careful not to abuse it. Coaches must also recognize that they are conduits through which the values and goals Kitchener Minor Baseball are channeled. Thus how a player regards playing baseball is often dependent on the behavior of the coach.

Kitchener Minor Baseball entrusts the execution of our programs to our coaches.  Coaches are obligated to understand and promote the tenets of the KMBA program and must not exploit their privileged relationship with Kitchener Minor Baseball for advantage.

This Code of Conduct has been developed to aid coaches in achieving a level of behavior that will allow them to assist their players in becoming well-rounded, self confident and productive citizens.

As a Kitchener Minor Baseball coach I agree to abide by the following code of conduct:

  1. I will uphold the rules and regulations of Kitchener Minor Baseball
  2. I will uphold the rules of baseball, the spirit of the rules, and expect players to do the same.
  3. I will place the emotional, developmental & physical well being of players ahead of the desire to win
  4. I will treat all players fairly and equitably, refraining from discrimination with respect to race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, family status, physical or mental disability, gender or sexual orientation.
  5. I will treat opponents and officials with due respect and encourage players to act accordingly.
  6. I will consider the player’s future health and well being as foremost when making decisions regarding an injured player’s ability to continue playing or training; communication with registered medical practitioners and the parents in the diagnosis is recommended.
  7. I will not use foul, profane, harassing or offensive language or gestures in the conduct of their duties.
  8. I will not use physical force in any kind in the conduct of coaching duties.
  9. I will not under any circumstances, endorse, recommend or suggest the use of performance enhancing drugs or supplements by any player.
  10. I will abstain from the use of tobacco products and alcohol while in the presence of players and enforce the players’ code of conduct in regards to their use by players.
  11. I will not under any circumstances encourage or require a player to become involved in any external program or alternate baseball program while performing their duties as a coach with Kitchener Minor Baseball
  12. I will ensure and educate players as to their responsibilities in contributing to a safe environment.
  13. I will be aware of the academic pressures placed on players and conduct practices and games in a manner so as to allow for academic success.
  14. I will ensure an environment for players that is free of harassment. Harassment takes many forms but can generally be defined as behaviors, including comments and/or conduct, that are insulting, intimidating, humiliating, hurtful, malicious, degrading or otherwise offensive to an individual or group of individuals or which creates an uncomfortable environment.
  15. I will abide by the dress code at all times by wearing an approved Kitchener Minor Baseball uniform while on the field during pre-game warm-up and games.

Parent Code of Conduct

As a Kitchener Minor Baseball parent I agree to abide by the following code of conduct:

  1. I will treat all participants with respect by demonstrating appropriate and mature adult behavior at all times. I will not use abusive language or actions and will I will never yell at or criticize an umpire, opposing coach, player or parent.
  2. I will remember that children participate to have fun, and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  3. I will respect the efforts of the volunteers that allow Kitchener Minor Baseball, Inc to exist, particularly the coaches that are so critical to the success of the program.
  4. I will read and understand the playing rules and program philosophy of the team and age level that my player is participating.
  5. I will support my player and his/her team mates by only cheering for his/her team positively, never negatively against the opposing team.
  6. I will never drink alcoholic beverages, smoke, or chew tobacco at a game or practice. These practices are prohibited by law and by League rules.
  7. I will drop-off and pick-up my player on time for all practices and games.
  8. I will inform the coach as far in advance as possible of any absence or late arrival that cannot be avoided.
  9. I will remain away from the dugouts at all times, unless I have been asked to be there or on the field in an official capacity by a coach, umpire or official.
  10. I will volunteer to assist with any activity that needs to be done.
  11. I will contact my player's coach at an appropriate time if I am not satisfied with my player's experience.
  1. I will observe a 24 hour rule and to schedule a time to discuss an issue with the coach away from the distractions of the field and team.
  2. If still unsatisfied with my player’s experience I will contact my team’s parent rep and then the  KMBA parent rep (parentrelations.kmba@rogers.com) who will provide final resolution in consultation with the KMBA board of directors.
  1. I will contact the Board of Directors (president@kmba.ca) at an appropriate time if I have concerns about the League, coaches, umpires, or any other aspect of Kitchener Minor Baseball

As a Kitchener Minor Baseball umpire I agree to abide by the following code of conduct

  1. I will fairly call the game based on my best judgment of the rules as established by the league.
  2. I will communicate the rules of the game effectively to the managers, coaches and players.
  3. I will respond professionally when asked for clarification of rules and judgment calls.
  4. I will treat both teams and all players equally and fairly and ensure the rights of players.
  5. I will  treat managers, coaches, other volunteers, players and parents with dignity. Attempt to pursue positive approaches to dealing with all parties.
  6. I will  show good sportsmanship, a positive attitude and remember the real reason for the game: To have fun!
  7. I will report to the Board any issues or problems beyond my authority or that I am unable to resolve.

Spectator Code of Conduct

Rude behaviour ruins the game for everyone. “As adults, we have a responsibility to protect our young people from any abusive, damaging behaviour and provide them with a safe environment in which to develop their skills and build their self-confidence.” Please set a good example.

The city of Kitchener has  implemented  a BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT POLICY (June 1999) to encourage appropriate behaviour and activities in all Parks and Recreation facilities. Behaviour and activities that obstruct or hinder the rights of others to use and enjoy Recreation & Leisure Services , Parks and Recreation Department  facilities is unacceptable and prohibited. The Executive of KMBA has assured its players, coaches and umpires that it will provide them with an environment at the ball park that is safe and secure so that they can carry out their duties and responsibilities in the manner in which they have been trained.

As a Kitchener Minor Baseball spectator I agree to abide by the following code of conduct:

  1. I will have realistic expectations for both our players, coaches  and umpires. Commitment, teamwork, making friends, and gaining self-confidence are the important skills we are trying to teach.
  2. I will not shout any demeaning, rude or abusive comments at a player, coach or umpire.
  3. I will not Intimidate or threaten a player, coach or umpire.\
  4. I will not direct sarcastic remarks towards a player, coach or umpire.
  5. I will not harassing an umpire over his/her calls
  6. I will not use foul language that disrupts the environment of the game for participants and fans.
  7. I will not make loud comments or reacting in a manner that undermines the decisions and authority of a coach or umpire.
  8. I will not use social media to abuse or slander
  9. I will not engage in verbal or physical conflicts with other parents or fans.
  10. I will not use alcohol, drugs or tobacco products are to be used on or near the playing field
