- A wealthy man in Kentucky told his pastor that he had given away fifty thousand dollars last year because he found it was getting too strong a hold on him. Encouraging others to do the same in their stewardship.
- A plea for someone to come to the relief of the Seminary and provide adequate heating apparatus for the building.before another winter.

- Various notes and items. One indicates that the Literary Societies are doing some good work, and that no department of the school is more important than these. Also, it is mentioned that the professors all have too much work. It would be wonderful if it were possible to “increase the force, raise salaries, and diminish the amount of work.” But, they rejoice that “we have a corps of teachers who do not work simply for the money they are to receive, but for the good of the institution.
- The railroad line of the new W.Va & P.R.R. is undergoing rapid development causing new towns to spring up. Buckhannon has probably doubled in population during the past three years and is still growing.

- Nothing is so vital to the future of our Seminary as to maintain the proper religious spirit.
- Mrs. Davis of Cincinnati left the residue of her estate to Ohio Wesleyan. We hope the time will soon come when the people of West Virginia will do similarly. We cannot always plead poverty.
- Gratifying to note the loyalty of all the Presiding Elders of the Conference to the Seminary. The future of the W.Va. Conference is in good degree dependent on the Seminary. The character of the ministry especially will be greatly influenced by the school.
- A desire to provide college course work here. Several will be leaving the Seminary to pursue further education elsewhere, but would have stayed here if it was available.

- Letters from a lady from Pennsylvania and a prominent lawyer in Wheeling congratulating the school.
- The President of the Seminary received a letter from a businessman in New York offering $500 provided the whole of the $20,000 debt shall be raised. This gentleman has never visited the school, and so far as we know is not personally known to one of the Trustees. This is another evidence that the cause of the Seminary commends itself to the judgment of benevolent men.

- Next to Upshur, Harrison is the banner county in number of students. She ranks well in quality as well as quantity.

- There are now between seventy and seventy-five students in regular class-work pursuing the study of Latin at the Seminary. This indicates what is true, that a large percent of the students enrolled are doing regular college preparatory work.

- Rev. F.D.T. Bickley, D.D., of Wheeling, will preach the annual sermon at Commencement Sunday at 8 p.m.
- We are pained to note that quite a number of students cannot return to school this Spring for lack of money. The hard times are felt here as in all lines of business and trade.
- The social the first Saturday evening of the spring term was a success in every particular. We hope the Faculty will remember that we appreciate a good thing and will permit us to have another one soon.
- The two literary societies rendered their annual programs Friday and Saturday evenings March 16 and 17.

- Singing books have been purchased for chapel and the societies. “Songs for the Soul”
- This issue of the paper is considerably delayed on account of the fire which burned the Banner office.
- The Military Department has taken one day out of four for the purpose of playing baseball. This seems to be a happy hit, at least for some of the cadets.
- It is not best for students to visit home often during the term. The student that does this, will lose much of the life of the school, and as a rule will not do so well in his studies.
- Many former students of the Seminary have received appointments to churches in the W.Va. Conference (Sterling J. Miller, J.H. Funk, W.T.W. Sleeth, E.A. Davis, G.E. Morris, W.G. Lloyd)
- The Seminary, not yet five years old, is the largest and most prosperous school of its grade in Methodism.

- Mr. W.E. Baker, class of ‘93, reports that the Seminary boys at Morgantown are in high favor. They are commanding the best places, and doing the best work.
- We are receiving good reports from our students who are out teaching. They make a very formidable body of teachers, and will doubtless do much to elevate the educational standard of the state.
- The outlook for the spring term is very encouraging, indeed. (The total number of students for the year will not be less than 300. This for a school just closing its fifth year, is certainly a remarkable showing.

- `Roy Reger, of ‘93, is Post Graduate student and teacher in the Seminary
- W.E. Baker of ‘93 and J.F. Strader, of ‘92 are students of law in the West Virginia University
- Don’t believe the statement that West Virginia students must go out of the State to find a first class school. We have it at home.
- The young men have organized an athletic association and meet four days in the week for physical drill. The young ladies in the Hall meet under direction of Miss McWorter for the same purpose.
- The Conference Seminary is each year becoming more secure in its standing as the leading denominational school in the State. No other school of the kind has near so many students from within the bounds of West Virginia.

- There are no debts back for current expenses
- The old debt of $20,000 which existed five years ago has been paid in full
- Besides the expense of the new hall ($19,000) and the furnishings, there has been the need for $2,000 to place steam heat in the main building. In order to raise this money, bonds were issued to the extent of $18,000, which figure now represents about the actual debt of the Seminary.
