Beginning of the year Information

Many fifth grade students take advantage of our optional band program and begin learning to play music on the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. The students perform in concerts and learn to work together as a team while building skills on their instrument. Music training begins in our elementary schools and is available at each grade level throughout middle and high school. Students learn to play interesting music and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that comes with success.

The program is free, however parents are responsible for providing an instrument, accessories, and instruction book (Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for your child's specific instrument).  Most families purchase supplies, books, and instruments from local music stores.

There are several wonderful music establishments in the area that tend to have good deals on "Rent-to-Own" programs.  Students have greater success playing on quality instruments purchased or rented from local stores.  There are a limited number of RBUSD-owned instruments available for qualified students on a need basis.  The school district instrument loan request form is available on our website.

Students are expected to:

• Stay in band class until the end of the school year.

• Attend classes regularly and arrive on time with instrument and music.

• Practice regularly to keep up with the playing assignments/expectations.

• Maintain their instrument in working condition.

• Participate in all performances.

• Band is twice a week during the school day.
