Getting to Camp

Camp Wheeler is located at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation, 750 Waterloo Road, Stanhope, NJ. Once you enter the reservation, follow the signs for Camp Wheeler. The road to Camp Wheeler is on the right. Follow it to the end, where you will enter the parking lot.

Road Safety

The speed limit on all camp roads is 15 mph. We have two camps on our property, and the entire Wheeler Road is used throughout the day for biking, ATVs, hiking, and other activities. Please help us keep everyone safe by obeying the speed limit.

Gate Instructions

Camp Wheeler access has a one-lane gate. To enter, if no staff member is present, stop at the keypad and press 'Call' to reach a staff member. To exit, drive up to the gate, and it will open automatically.  The gate has a sensor; if it is open, it WILL NOT lower for a vehicle traveling through, so traffic can continue to flow out without stopping once the gate has been opened. (A code will be emailed each week for quick access)

Busing

Bus transportation is available this summer. Click here to see the bus schedule. You may sign up for a bus when you register.  Any bus changes must be made one week in advance to the Outdoor Program Group office at 973-765-9322 x225.

If you need an update on a bus's expected arrival time for an AM or PM pick-up/drop-off, please call or text Camp Wheeler at (973) 440 -5262.

Camp starts as soon as your child steps on the bus. The rules on the bus are the same as at camp, so prohibited items at camp also apply to the bus. Any rider demonstrating unsafe behavior or behavior not in line with the Scout Law may lose the privilege of riding the bus to ensure the safety of all riders.

Check-In/Check-Out

If not using bus transportation, drop-off times are between 8:30 am and 8:45 am, and pick-up times are between 3:45 pm and 3:55 pm. Once you reach the parking lot, please form a line in the check-in/out lane.  If you need to drop off late or pick up early, contact the camp office at (973) 440 -5262 by phone or text to make arrangements. *For safety reasons, scouts may not be dropped off before 8:30.

What to Bring

Campers should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes with socks, and it is preferred that they wear a camp t-shirt (a camp t-shirt will be provided on your camper’s first day).

Prohibited Items in Camp

*Camp Wheeler is not responsible for any lost items.

Required Medical Form

Each camper must submit a completed health form through CAMPDOC by the Friday before their first day. It does not require a doctor’s signature or a physical exam; however, copies of immunization records and insurance cards must be attached. Click here for detailed instructions for using CAMPDOC. Please email David Kospa at David.Kopsa@scouting.org for CampDoc registration and account issues.

*No camper will be permitted to attend camp without a completed medical form*

Upcoming First Graders (Tigers)

Campers entering first grade in September must attend camp with a parent/guardian. Parents/guardians must complete a medical in CampDoc and provide proof of Safeguarding Youth Training to campwheelermasr@campwheeler.org. All adults attending Camp Wheeler must have current Safeguarding Youth training. Training is good for one year. Visit this page to print your certificate or take initial training. Please arrive at camp at 8:45 AM, park in the lot,  and check in at the office.

Parent/Guardian Visitors

Parents/Guardians may attend camp with their child. Parents/guardians must complete a medical form in CampDoc and provide proof of Youth Protection to attend. All adults attending Camp Wheeler must have current Safeguarding Youth training. Visit here to print your certificate or complete the initial training. Please arrive at camp at 8:45 AM, park in the lot,  and check in at the office.

A Day at Camp

Campers will arrive by bus or car and join their den and den leaders on the parade field. At the start of the day, the campers will participate in an opening flag ceremony and song. Campers will then follow their schedule, which rotates daily. Activities include boating, fishing, mountain biking, archeology, swimming at the pool, crafts, nature, scoutcraft, STEM, bouldering, games, BB, and archery. Campers will break for a bag lunch mid-day at the Watchu Center and continue their afternoon activities. Campers meet at the end of the day at the parade field to eat a snack, retire the flag, and board their bus or car ride home.

Campfire

Campfire will be held on Friday at 2:45 pm. Please plan to arrive by 2:30 pm. Families are invited to join us for skits, songs, and weekly camp awards. Mini-week campers are welcome to return with a family member for the campfire. The event will be held rain or shine; however, if the weather requires us to be indoors, we must limit attendance to campers and staff.

Check Out

If you will be picking up your child who normally rides the bus home after the campfire, please check them out with the staff member in the parking lot, and they will be dismissed to you at the conclusion of the campfire. At the conclusion of the campfire, please exit the parking lot promptly so the buses may enter and normal dismissal procedures may resume on time.

Parking

Please wait at the cones at the entrance of the parking lot until a staff member directs you, so we can fit everyone effectively.

Regular Car Pickup Dismissal

If you are NOT attending campfire and are taking your child home by car, please wait behind the cones with the buses until the parking lot is empty, and then normal car dismissal procedures will follow.

Remind

Are you interested in signing up for text message alerts? This year, Camp Wheeler will be using “Remind” text message services.

What is it?  Remind 101 is a free way for teachers to stay in touch with parents.

How will it be used at camp?  For parents interested in signing up for the service, we can send text message alerts to inform you of camp-wide notices, such as information about campfires and busing.

How do I sign up? Click the link or send a text message to 81010 with the message corresponding to the week(s) your scouts will be attending camp.

Health Supervision and Medications

Any severe or unusual health-related issues or concerns should be discussed with the camp director and health officer before your camper arrives, so we can ensure a safe and healthy environment for all campers.  A health officer will always be on duty. All medication brought to camp, prescription and over-the-counter, must be in the original container, with a prescription label, if applicable, and documented on the camper’s medical form with a parent's signature. All medications must be left with the health officer. Please contact the office at (973) -440-5262 to speak with the Health Officer with any questions.

Food Allergies

Any camper’s food allergies, including peanut and tree nuts, should be documented on their medical form in CampDoc. An Emergency Action Plan must accompany any rescue medication for life-threatening allergies.  Safety is our top priority, and we make every effort to maintain a safe environment for your camper while at camp. We sell snacks at our trading post during lunch for $1 each.  All of our snacks are nut-free.  If you have any questions about the current snacks or our food allergy protocols, please contact the Health Officer at (973) 440 -5262.

Illness

Parents should not send children to camp when they are sick.  Campers with the following symptoms will promptly be isolated from others and excluded from camp:

  1. At least two of the following symptoms: fever (measured or subjective), chills, rigors (shivers), myalgia (muscle aches), headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion, or runny nose; OR
  2. At least one of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new olfactory disorder, or new taste disorder.

Campers may return to camp when they are free of fever/vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours without medication.

Changes to Registration and Cancellation/Refund Policy

Any changes made after the initial registration must be processed through the Outdoor Program Group by calling 973-765-9322  x225.

Patriots' Path Council, BSA, invests significant planning and purchasing in the camp program well in advance. These plans include, but are not limited to, staff, food, program materials, patches and awards, rental and purchase of equipment, and, in some cases, clothing items such as T-shirts included in the program fee.  When an individual or group makes a reservation for an activity or program, the items are included in the materials and staffing order for that event.

Refunds: Individuals or groups that cancel a program reservation 30 days before the event date will receive a refund of fees paid, less a 15% administrative charge. No refunds will be issued after the 30-day cancellation deadline, except in cases of medical or other emergency.

ALL CANCELLATIONS MUST BE MADE IN WRITING AND SENT TO THE PATRIOTS' PATH COUNCIL
