Will there be a program orientation?

There will be two virtual program orientations for each intensive. The first orientation will be a video that students will receive a week before their arrival. The second virtual orientation is mandatory and will take place on:

Wednesday, July 7 at 7:00 PM CST for students attending week 1

Wednesday, July 14 at 7:00 PM CST for students attending week 2

Wednesday, July 21 at 7:00 PM CST for students attending week 3

Students will receive the ZOOM information in their Welcome email.

When will I receive my group assignment and schedule?

Schedules will be posted on the website and group assignments will be emailed no later than a week before a student’s arrival.

IMPORTANT: Pre-determined group assignments are based on the dancer's age and the audition score received during the audition tour. The same applies to those who were scored using a digital audition. ➠Students attending one week will not be able to move groups. All students are evaluated during their first week of attendance to ensure they are in the proper group. Unfortunately due to policies designed to limit the spread of COVID-19 we cannot mix groups of students during the week so it's not possible to move a student until their second week. Additionally, we may not be able to move a student if the other group is at capacity due to social distancing requirements.

What does a daily schedule look like?

Start Time: 8:00am - 10:00 am (Times staggered due to COVID-19 Protocols)

Ending Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm (Times staggered due to COVID-19 Protocols)

Typically, classes are held from 8-5 / 9-6 daily, Monday-Friday only. PLEASE NOTE: Additional rehearsals may be scheduled during performance week and may extend a dancer's day. (If you are commuting, you can expect your class schedule to begin between 8:30am and 10:30 in the morning.)

Schedules for our intensives are made available the week prior to the program start date. Schedules are posted on the Joffrey website and will be updated every Sunday for the upcoming week. Schedules can be viewed online, and will also be handed out during orientation.

Are guardians allowed to watch class?

No parents, guardians or visitors are allowed to be in the building. All students must be dropped off outside, in front of the building entrance.

Are students required to wear masks?

All students are required to wear a fitted cloth mask, covering the nose and mouth at all times throughout the JBS premises. Bring multiple clean masks, at minimum 1 mask per class to be taken, to allow you to change into a clean one as needed; sweat saturation makes masks ineffective.

Are meals available? What is included?

The Meal Plan is required for dancers staying in housing. Students on the meal plan will have three meals daily provided Monday through Friday and two meals daily on Saturday and Sunday. Meals will be served in a dining hall on campus. *Times are subject to change.

If you have questions or special dietary needs, please contact our Director of Residence Life prior to registering for the meal plan. The meal plan is non-refundable.

COMMUTER STUDENTS: Food is available for purchase for commuter students. Students may purchase food daily, have food delivered, or bring/prepare food. We recommend that students pack a healthy lunch and snacks to eat between meals.

Do I need a COVID-19 test or vaccination to attend a summer intensive?

All students attending a live/in-person JBS program must get a COVID-19 PCR or rapid test within the 5 days prior to arrival and submit the (negative) test result before their arrival. (This includes any students who have previously received a COVID-19 vaccination.)

If a student is attending 1 to 4 consecutive weeks in a single location, they will only need to submit test results at the beginning of their first week (not weekly).

Students attending 5 or more consecutive weeks must get a second COVID-19 test (and submit their results) during their 4th week (prior to the start of their 5th week). Housing students 17 and younger will be escorted by Joffrey staff members to get their test.

COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged, but are not a requirement to attend a Joffrey Ballet School summer intensive.

Do I need a physical to attend a summer intensive?

A completed physical or physician’s note from within the last 12 months are required and should be completed before a dancer begins their selected intensive.

If you have a completed physical examination for your dancer from within the last calendar year, you can substitute it in place of the Dr’s note.

A hard copy of a doctor’s note giving health clearance for a dancer’s attendance will need to be provided by any student attending a live on-person summer program. The letter must state that the dancer is healthy and physically able to participate in the summer program. This form will be submitted at the student’s program orientation. A complete physical  is not necessary.

Sample Dr’s Note

Are there travel restrictions or a required quarantine period when traveling to Texas?

At this time there are no travel restrictions for domestic students. No quarantine will be required of commuter or housing students on arrival.
