GLOBAL RULES & GUIDELINES

Background

Use the Background label for irrelevant objects or for images that we should skip / not annotate

In this example, we any clothing and objects related to the person are annotated; the irrelevant objects (the car, the trees) are labeled as background.

Objects near the person / people

Label ALL garments / accessories that are near people in the image, even if you are uncertain if they belong to the person.

Incorrect - we need to annotate ALL garments / accessories that are near people in the image

Correct - All of the shoes and boots are annotated

Tight / Refined Annotations

All annotations MUST BE tight and refined.

The boundaries of each item should be clear and the segmentation of one object SHOULD NOT bleed into other objects.

Example of a Refined Annotation

Example of a Sloppy Annotation

Minimum Sizing

DO NOT ANNOTATE the people in the image if they are not AT LEAST 125 px x 125px

Fill the entire image as Background

People are smaller than 125 px x 125 px:

Misc Garments

LABEL garments that are NOT any of these other labels as Misc_garment

Not enough information / context to know if this is a bag

0 People

If there are garments visible, but there no people, annotate all of the objects

0 Garments vs 1 Garment

If there are 0 garments in the image, DO NOT label the image.

Fill the entire image as Background

If there is 1 or more garments visible ANNOTATE the garments

No garments, DO NOT ANNOTATE

At least 1 garment visible, ANNOTATE:

1-5 People

If there are 1-5 people in the image, annotate the people using the labeling guidelines

ANNOTATE

6+ People

If there are 6 or more people in the image, DO NOT label the people in the image.

Fill the entire image as Background

DO NOT ANNOTATE images with 6 or more people.

Images with Watermarks

If there is a small watermark in the image, try your best to  ALL of the garments and accessories in the image, and include the watermark with the annotations

Text on the Image

If there is large text on the image that blocks ALL of the person / clothing (watermarks, copyright markings…) try your best to annotate the clothing

If the text makes it difficult to identify clothing, label the blocked clothing as Unknown, and annotate the other clothing as regular

Nudity

If there is any visible nudity (female nipples or female/male genitals) DO NOT label the people in the image.

Fill the entire image as Background.

NOTE: If there are male nipples but no visible genitals, ANNOTATE the image

Blurry Images

If the image is blurry - try your best to annotate the objects in the image.

Image Example 1:

  • This image is slightly blurry, but not too blurry to annotate the objects. Try your best to label the objects with the correct label

If the image is very blurry and you CANNOT identify any of the objects DO NOT label the image.

Fill the entire image as Background.

Flipped or Rotated Images

If the image is flipped on its side, is upside down, or is rotated  by 90° or more DO NOT label the people in the image.

Fill the entire image as Background.

NOTE: Annotate diagonal images rotated less than 90°

Reflections

If there are visible reflections of garments in a mirror, annotate the reflections
