GOOGLE MEET STUFF
- Can I have Private meetings on Google Meet?
- Yes! Use Google Calendar to schedule a meeting for a private meeting link.
- Can participants mute and kick other people out of my meeting?
- No, the only person who can mute or kick out participants is the person who started the meeting.
- Can students start Google Meets?
- No, students cannot start a Google Meet. They can only join a meet.
- How can I make sure that everyone leaves my meeting before it ends?
- Remove all participants from the meeting, and then end the meeting. You do this by viewing the participant list in the Meet. When you click on a person, you have the option to remove them from the meeting. Do this for each participant who remains before you close the meeting.
- What if I need to see what my video feed looks like during the meeting? It’s SO tiny!
- You can “pin” yourself so that your video is largest on the screen. See your video feed in the upper right corner of the screen? Just click on it to pin yourself...now you should see yourself LARGE on screen!
- Can I create a permanent Meet link instead of using my Nickname?
- Can I use Google Meet with parents and others who aren’t students?
- Why can’t I un-mute a participant?
- You CAN mute someone (like, if their dog is barking or they are coughing), but you CANNOT un-mute someone...they have to un-mute themselves. This is a privacy issue as the person needs to know that their mic is active in the meeting (like when the student is talking smack about their teacher...they don’t want their mic turned on!)
- If their mic on the meet is turned on and you can’t hear them, they will need to check their computer microphone settings - first thing is to click on the little padlock to the left of the URL (on Chrome) to ensure that you have allowed access to the microphone. If access is allowed, then they will need to check their audio settings on the computer.
- When I go to Google Meet, it says “Use a meeting code” instead of “Join or start a meeting” and I can’t use my meeting nickname. What am I doing wrong?
- You must be logged in to Google with your @cvuhsd.org account in order to use your meeting nickname to “Join or start a meeting”
- How can I live stream instead of having students join my meet?
GOOGLE VOICE STUFF
- You cannot get Google Voice on your @cvuhsd.org account: Google voice is a subscription service for Education Accounts and we DO NOT subscribe as it is incredibly expensive. Therefore Google Voice is not available on your @cvuhsd.org Google Account
- If you happened to set it up on your @cvuhsd.org account a long time ago, when it was free, it seems that those accounts still work. But if you are trying to set it up now, it will not work.
- Google Voice is a free service for private accounts. If staff want to set up a new private Google account for the purpose of using Google Voice for school, they are welcome to do so.
- IMPORTANT TIPS FOR USING GOOGLE VOICE
- Use a completely different internet browser than the one you use for your school Google Account to set up and access your Google Voice Account. For example, I use Chrome for my work account, and I use Firefox for my personal account. If you don’t do this, Google Voice might give you lots of trouble!
- Set it up on your phone for easy access and less confusion about what Google account you are using to access Voice.
- What can you do with Google Voice?
- Get a phone number through Google
- Text from your computer or mobile phone
- Read your voicemail and search through it like email
- Personalize your voicemail greetings for family and friends
- Get protected from SPAM calls, block unwanted callers, and screen calls before answering
GOOGLE VOICE SUPPORT INFORMATION: We cannot guarantee that every member of the EdTech Team and IT can help you with this! The EdTech and IT Teams have NOT been trained on this nor do we have any additional resources. We do have some team members who already use it and may be able to offer some office hours for assistance. Please watch our Virtual EdTech Support document for opportunities to get help with Google Voice.
FOR PARENTS
