Dear NRHS Students,

We’re excited to see some of you in person next week! Here is a brief explanation of what to expect when you arrive, and routines to guide us while in the building in order to ensure everyone’s safety.

Arrival

School begins at 7:40am! Doors to the building will open at 7:30. Buses will drop students off at the main entrance to the building. Students who park in the student parking lot will enter through two doors on that side of the building. Students getting dropped off will enter through the auditorium entrance. There will be several hand sanitizer stations at the entrances; please take some hand sanitizer as you arrive. Once you enter the building, travel directly to your first class. Remember to keep 6 feet between you and others as you enter and travel through the building.

Breakfast

You’ll be able to grab a breakfast at either the student parking entrance, the main entrance, or the auditorium entrance and eat it outdoors before entering the building; please stand 10 feet apart from others while eating. Use of the cafeteria will be limited to days of inclement weather.

Inside the Building

As you enter the building, be sure you are wearing a mask properly; it must fit snugly over your mouth and nose. The mask should not be below the nose or at the tip of the nose, it should fit tightly against your face. Stop at the hand sanitizer station on your way in. Please note, there are several hand sanitizer dispensers in the hallways and classrooms for your regular use throughout the day. When moving through the building, follow the unidirectional signs in hallways and the up/down signs for stairways; for the most part foot traffic will flow in only one direction. When transitioning between classes, keep 6 feet of distance between you and others. Students will not be using lockers; please do not linger in the hallways between classes.

Inside the Classroom

When you enter a classroom, your teacher will have sprayed the desks and chairs with a cleaning solution. Please wipe your desk and chair with a paper towel and dispose of it before sitting down. Your teacher will have designed a seating chart for your class; sit in this same seat each day. Your teacher will take your attendance and these seating charts will be used for contact tracing, if necessary. Seating charts will be shared with administration and nursing in case our contact tracers need to contact you after school hours. You’ll see that the desks in the classroom are spaced 6 feet apart, and facing forward; this classroom seating follows CDC/DESE guidelines. All persons in the room should remain 6 feet apart from one another during class. Please refrain from sharing materials while you are in class. Come to school prepared with paper, pen/pencil, a charged chromebook and cord, and any books or other materials you’ll need for the day. Before you leave a classroom, your teacher will spray the desks and chairs with a cleaning solution. Please wipe your desk and chair with a paper towel and dispose of it before leaving.

Bathroom Breaks

One student at a time will be permitted to leave the classroom for a bathroom break and only one student at a time will be permitted inside any bathroom. Only use the bathroom closest to your classroom. Please be mindful to check for occupancy before entering bathrooms and wait in the hallway if it is in use.

Mask Breaks

Mask breaks will take place in the cafeteria courtyard or the courtyard outside of the Science and Foreign Language classrooms. If you are in need of a mask break please speak to your teacher. Only one student at a time will be permitted to leave the classroom for a mask break. Please wait until you are outside in the courtyard to remove your mask, and  continue to stay 6 feet apart from other students. The number of students in the courtyard at once will be monitored to ensure safe distances.

Study Halls

If you have a gap block in your program, it indicates that you have a study hall during that block. Study halls will be held in the auditorium. Please follow the signage for seating; students will sit 6 feet apart from one another.

Guidance Office

The Guidance Office will be by appointment only, and counselors will reach out to your teacher to notify you to come to the office. If you have an emergency need, your teacher will call down to the office to make arrangements. The Guidance Office will keep a running list of students who have come into the office for appointments, in case contact tracing is necessary. The Guidance Office will not be open for drop-ins during transitions between classes.

Nurse’s Office

If you begin to feel ill at school, your teacher will call down to the Nurse’s Office to ascertain the best course of action. Students presenting Covid symptoms will quarantine in an isolated room until they are picked up from school. The nurse will decide on the best course of action for students presenting non-Covid symptoms. The Nurse’s Office will not be open for drop-ins during transitions between classes.

Lunch

Lunches will be Grab-and-Go and stationed at the snack shack, the main entrance, and the student parking lot entrance for you to pick up as you leave. If you take the bus, please wait to eat your lunch until you get home. Seating on buses must be socially distanced and masks must be worn at all times.

Dismissal

The school day ends at 11:30am on Mondays and Thursdays, and at 10:20am on Tuesdays and Fridays. Dismissal will be staggered; students taking the bus will be dismissed first, and drivers and students getting picked-up will be dismissed a few minutes later. Please listen for the announcement to know when to leave your classroom. Stop for hand sanitizer on your way out of the building and remember to keep 6 feet between you and others as you make your way to your transportation home.

We’re looking forward to seeing you!
