COOPERATIONAL CLUSTERING

Present and future initiators of this initiative are united by the desire of bringing together different people and their ambitions to not to further strengthen prevailing competitive conditions but jointly form a cooperative counterweight while challenging established views on societal participation.

Based on existing modes of action, sustainable cooperation formation requires a whole series of coincidences. The right people have to be in the right place at the right time in order to bring together one person with another. Detours that have to be taken, like the need for direct involvement of intermediaries, represent obstacles intended to be overcome. Adequate integration of new tools can create opportunities to establish collaborations across multiple corners, across multiple networks, without the active intervention of connectors.

Joint development of methods and technologies generates value for all participants and their activities, but hardened structures and protectionist tendencies often succeed in preventing transsectoral spillover,

Moreover, adequate cooperational infrastructures cannot be predetermined by individual ideals, but must be discursively developed through joint interaction.

Accordingly, this development is being advanced based on the conception and realization of interlocking pioneer projects.

Thereby, the approach is set up as a structure which is not overarching these specific initiatives (nor competing with similar attempts) but which remains as one partial initiative among others, providing a discursive space and performing direct exchange on the genesis and theoretical framework of such an open system.

By (re-)introducing mechanisms gathered from actual modes of human interaction as strategic tools, it is aimed at providing open access to their potentials - as a system capable of evolving and following existing constellations to spread like a mycelium along established network structures.

PIONEERING PROJECTS

These cooperation-oriented infrastructures are developed step by step on the basis of the conception, realization and interlocking of individual projects. Approaches and experiences are being accessed from different directions, tools and network extensions are being embedded on different sides. Through mutual advancement, this interplay opens up added value for each individual initiative and effective access for their participants to a continuously expanding network of actors. Perspectives on this cooperative fabric vary significantly from position to position while also each additional initiative forms a multiplicity of new interconnections. Thus, additional dimensions are not only introduced, but often generated through cooperative engagement.

 (Selection)

--------under construction--------

“Zettelwerk”

In an effort to strengthen cooperative momentum, this project pursues the development of a collaborative note-taking system - a tool capable of interweaving individual strands and networks of thought.

The primary goal is not reaching a common understanding, but building up emergent potential and content that could only be generated through this specific interaction. While enabling comprehensive enrichment of one's own views through the perspectives of others, the development of entirely new subject areas as well as the conception of new collaborative projects is being accelerated.

While ranging from individual inspirational discourses to far-reaching explorations, from the generation of project plans to the initiation of technological and social innovation, the organizational focus also lies on the traceability of individual contributions and legally secure framework conditions in regard to the shared authorship.

“re-active Archive”

This initiative is based on the assumption that, in view of upcoming challenges, it is not sufficient to rely solely on the field of tension that tries to balance between supposedly new approaches on the one hand and uninterruptedly traditional aspects to a considerable extent on the other. Thus, the focus here is specifically on accessing those bodies of knowledge that have already been elaborated, mostly stored in archives and, from a social-creative point of view, largely forgotten, and on integrating them (anew) into the cooperative structure.

This requires a procedure that goes far beyond the current socio-political efforts to administer the archives of creative, researching individuals after their death by ensuring their safekeeping and granting access to interested parties only upon their own request. Archived contents are not to be treated solely in the sense of such a scientific-conservational reappraisal, but are to be fed directly into the current, collectively driven design process. To this end, they are to be presented to a cooperative structure that brings together people from a variety of approaches and disciplines, without their active involvement, as an inspirational asset and basis for discourse, so that knowledge stocks that have been worked out in advance are given the opportunity to find their way into today's social debate on a broad basis and to unfold relevance on those basic conditions that certainly deviate from their original references.

The establishment of specific innovations is closely linked to the respective temporal and local conditions and can only be understood as an evaluation criterion in these references, which are often difficult to comprehend. Along with those former conditions, the subjective motives and those applied strategies also lie largely hidden or can only be reconstructed with difficulty and incompletely. This also applies to concrete contexts. As a rule, what is recorded is merely an abstracted image of the actual considerations which, as a support for thought, make those initially non-verbally composed contents subjectively recallable.

Every effort, hopeless in its perfection, to reproduce factual situations in their original sense, may be relevant from a historical point of view or for present-day references in an indirect way. From a creative, and thus innovation-oriented, technological point of view, however, previous considerations can be directly connected to without reconstructing the original contexts, or an out-of-context tearing and reinterpretation can be considered quite beneficial.

Instead of selectively processing information by means of preceding categorizations, this information should be fed into discursive systems as raw and unfiltered as possible. In this sense, the reprocessing of archives presented here is to be understood as an initiative for reactivating dormant content, which is to generate social added value not through a more precise understanding of it, but based on its potential as a source of inspiration through new intersections and pathways.

Through the aforementioned mediation between conservational positions and efforts at encapsulation, an attempt is made to effectively counteract the current decline in cross-generational knowledge transfer, which is itself based not least on changed technological and media landscapes, by means of new strategies. This can be realized by means of new cooperation-oriented platforms that access extensive network structures.

“Collective Fridays”

This initiative is based directly on the endeavor to bring together different people in a cooperative way, even without concrete plans, further motives or specific objectives.

The scheduling is based on the intention of finding as open and recurring a framework as possible for such a format - which, in view of the traditional category boundaries of private/business, can hardly be located. Finally, in accordance with the prevailing temporal division into "week" and "weekend", the period from Friday afternoon to Friday evening represents a striking connecting link.

As a platform in the classical sense, as an open "regulars' table" or jour fixe, which, however, does not bring together the same people all the time, but also specifically people who do not yet know each other, these Friday rounds offer a largely informal framework for more or less professional exchange.

For several years, this regularly organized series of openly productive meetings has developed into an established format and - as a scheduling track - into an independent sub-project of the cooperation-oriented structure described above, interacting with other initiatives.

Although cooperation itself is occasionally elevated to the defining theme, these events are generally thematically open. Diverse individual contents, aspirations and approaches of those present combine to form a social structure, whereby the respective thematic directions or lines of flight of the discourse are only revealed by the intersections of the participants.

Thus - also or precisely because of their thematic openness - the holding of such regular meetings represents an effective tool for generating empirical values at the strategic level as well. How are new collaborations initiated? Where are the barriers to interdisciplinary work? How can such cooperation be facilitated? It also provides a suitable framework for discussing and directly testing strategies in this regard.

Initially conceived as an opportunity for face-to-face meetings, the initiative has increasingly shifted to the virtual space in the course of the developments on Covid-19, and in the process - accompanied by an expansion of its catchment area - has become increasingly independent.

The concept, which is still being developed, envisages organizing these meetings at quarterly or half-yearly intervals on an increasingly larger scale in order to force the interlocking of even more extensive network structures as a participatory, openly cooperative platform, to make cooperation visible and thus to increase the social influence of cooperation-oriented forms of organization.

“NotationalCapture”

In the perspective of advancing cooperative potentials, not only content but also approaches and strategies are increasingly intertwined and interoperability is implemented systemically, this initiative pursues a generalization and linking of individually generated notation techniques.

In the development of knowledge bases or the documentation and conceptual processing of ideas and other impressions, different people generally rely on organizational methods that have been individually developed, established, and continuously refined in the course of their lives in the context of their concrete application. As a rule, however, their strategic sphere of influence hardly exceeds the scope of this predominantly subjective debate. However, in order to adequately tap the social potential inherent in this, access to idiosyncratic methods must also be made possible for others.

In the sense of new knowledge-poetological infrastructures, an open field of such individually developed procedures should be made available in all their diversity as well as through a broadly based collection and analysis in a bundled form and be applied on a common platform - whereby those initially individually optimized techniques are subjected to a collective process of deepening and emancipation.

Although initially integrated into the social debate as a multitude of divergent approaches or as an open, hardly coherent mixture, the participatory position of the users subsequently leads to a strong interlocking of specific modes of action and finally even to a development towards a coherent structure.

Such a structure - collectively developed, enriched by genuinely unconventional methods of category formation, and still open to new influences - points to the possibility of renewing itself out of itself, of overcoming the formation of hierarchies, and of adapting to the constant change in social understanding.

“open Document”

An important part of the collaborative development of cooperative infrastructures is their accompanying, discursive and comprehensive thematic development. A specific document or a corresponding series of documents provides the framework for this, whereby this discussion is not understood as a conceptual superstructure, but rather as one of the subprojects of this project.

This discourse space does not have a fixed structure either, but is also based on the interlocking of different methods. It is model-like in the sense that strategies are developed and tested which prevent permanent establishments or effectively counteract rigid category and hierarchy formation.

Accordingly, everyone is invited to participate in this elaboration and to contribute at their own discretion according to their own methodology, to make changes and rearrangements and to leave additional points of contact, new contents or individual traces.

Since then, new ideas and perspectives, individual approaches, concrete objections or experiences from the development of other subprojects have been consistently incorporated. Accordingly, the document has been based on such a collaborative development and variable order since its inception and sees itself as an open document that is always in development.

In this way, however, not only a framework for the confluence of relevant information on the project here is opened up. Through the discursive approach, this interlocking unfolds specific catalytic potentials and establishes a far-reaching productive component. This output not only comprises a far-reaching collection of texts, but ultimately leads to the emergence of new ideas and approaches as well as to the constitution of new project plans, which continuously expand the spectrum of the overall structure. Accordingly, this structure, through its inner mechanisms, represents in a certain sense not only an apparatus linking those different dimensions, but also a reactor opening up new dimensions, specifically oriented towards the promotion of cooperative self-dynamics.

partnering Organizations (Auswahl)

All of the organizations that are closely involved in the discussion here also have distinctive network structures, connect a large number of people and institutions, and also place the strategic focus on the development of cooperation-oriented working methods. These independent projects, which are not covered in detail here, are loosely intertwined with the projects described above; for further information, we recommend contacting them directly.

Lendhauer

"... The association Lendhauer and the projects it strives for stand for a sustainable, cultural urban space development. The focus area is the area of Klagenfurt's Lendhafen with its extension towards the outskirts of the city. The aim of the art projects is to make a contribution to a modern and open Klagenfurt and a Carinthia that is just as modern. The Lend as a bridge to the world is an annual venue for contemporary and international art. In terms of content, the association is dedicated to reflecting on contemporary themes with local significance and significance far beyond, from which it follows that the association is supra-regional in its projects and in the type of artists participating or invited. ..."

Seelab

Research and development lab for media art in Aspern Urban Lakeside; " Permanent change is everyday life here. And this is where the necessary space for interdisciplinary artistic debate is to be found. ... Here at seelab, artists from different disciplines meet philosophers and theorists. We accompany the process of change that is taking place right on our doorstep, the process of construction and consolidation, of design and of clarification of the different demands for use. Thereby an interaction arises: On the one hand, the process of change is reflected in our work as a matter of course. On the other hand, with our projects we initiate interaction between the Viennese city residents and the new district and strengthen the identification of the Seestädter with their Grätzel. And we open up spaces of opportunity for the development and strengthening of permanent creative structures. In this way, a laboratory situation grows where it is balanced what contribution artistic practice and media art can make in the development of a new district. "

Covid19

From now on, everything is more or less directly related to the new circumstances. The effects affect all areas of life. Through changed constellations, interdependencies now become all-encompassing modes of action. Specific manifestations will come to light in the coming weeks and months, but fundamental decisions are already being made some time before they become visible.

The potential of cooperation-oriented implication is also more effective than ever in this time of upheaval. In today's highly strained field of tension between a new sense of community and 'social distancing', however, any failure to act can already contribute to the promotion of individualizing tendencies as well as to the further marginalization of collaborative efforts.

It is up to each individual to turn those decisive screws which - despite all unpredictability - will have major effects later on. If future conditions are to present themselves as socially prudent as possible, the participation of many is required.

For some time now, the local initiative has been dedicated to just such a conscious community participation. The catalytic effect of the present change is in direct harmony with the approaches already pursued and those yet to be developed.
